Engine Overhaul

Sorry you experienced such discomfort but good to see you working on and strong.

Thanks GV. I tried it again with milk and rice in it, and that worked out much better. My new flat bench should be here by next weekend. Dave thinks it will help. I hope so!

Happy Birthday to me! I only missed my goal by 5lbs…Damn it! I might have been able to pull 200 if I would have just jumped to it. Just couldn’t get it off the ground. I pulled the 200 from 4 inch blocks, so it’s just a matter of time.

Good pull.

And Happy Birthday!

Sweet, there ya go!! Nice pull, onward and upward into the 200’s+

Thanks 2busy! Hope your New Year started off right!

Thanks Zman! Happy New Year!

So…If I am having a hard getting the weight off the floor. I should do deficit deads for assistance? Or what assistance do I need to do?

I’d focus on your set up… Make sure you are tight, have slack out of the bar and can feel hate in your hammies and glutes… remember you are also playing with the trap bar so give it some time and feel the love!

Thanks OG! I will work on it.

Happy Birthday and Happy New Year!

Congrats on the PR pull. Pretty impressive as you had very little speed off the floor and the bar moved faster as it went up.

I agree with OGH work on getting set up tighter and work on speed off the floor.

Happy New Year Dave! Thank you. I will keep working on it.

In my amateur opinion, your lats are not tight at the beginning of the pull, and the bar is floating around coming off the ground. Once the bar gets to your knees, it can’t “float” forward anymore, and your strength powers it through the finish. And yes, you definitely had the extra 5 lbs in you if you had not pulled 195 first.

I’ve viewed a gazillion (ok, slight exaggeration lol) deadlift videos, but I recently watched the best one yet -google Deadlift Like the Mad Scientist Chris Duffin on Youtube. He has a five step process, and best of all it’s easily repeatable; plus it applies to both conventional and sumo. IMO it is absolutely brilliant.

edit to add: he also addresses assistance exercises, if you are (still) so inclined

Thanks Punnyguy, I will definitely check it out. As far as the lats go… I have Dick Tracy and Sherlock Holmes looking for them, but alas they have come up empty handed. Probably the only human on earth that doesn’t have those…lol. or at least it seems that way. :pensive:

Sleep was rudely interrupted last night by a storm. In Jan. What? It’s not supposed to hail in Jan. Crazy shit. I mean, I wanted to do some sprints, just not at 3am from a dead sleep. But the dog was really happy I did. ( He gets scared when it storms)
