I’ve heard of the whole pleasure from pain thing, and yeah maybe she’s making a big internet joke with her cutting hobby about the whole “true goth we all wanna die” crap. But I mean come on…
I think there’s more clarity and understanding to be gained from meditation and meaningful contemplation of life than from self-mutilation. Maybe she needs to get the crap kicked out of her on a regular basis, I would imagine that might fill a void of somesort, join an underground female-fight club and make some money doing something you love, not grossing out 90% of the people on the internet so the few percent of emo/goth or whomever understands/gets this dark humor and can feel whatever salvation this may be giving her.

i got this nasty burn on my arm once cause i was carrying a plate on my arm (work in a resturaunt) for this girl to her table and the shit was sitting under the heat lamp so the plate was HOT. i go to the table that was on the slip but no one was there…the table apparently moved seats and no one told me. so im standing there burning my ass off and i see the girl like uh, hey where is going?
anyway, it hurt at first but i kinda psyched myself into thinking that it felt good as a sensation so i didn’t mind, in fact it felt kinda good, but yea i got a wicked nasty burn and it got all bubbled up for the next couple days.

This.
Ive known a few people that cut, one of them actually being a guy. In every case they were embarrased by their scars and did everything they could to hide them. Also in each case they were either raped or molested at a young age. The guy i knew that cut was actually molested by his cousin who, when finally was confronted about the molestation, ended up blowing his head off with a shotgun. So these people have definately been through some bad shit.
The main theme, when I have talked to these people regarding cutting, is it helps to numb the emotional pain they are feeling and can give a rush when they are otherwise completely numb. It is a coping strategy that they use when nothing else seems to work.
On a side note, I did show these pictures to one of the girls I know who cuts and she agreed that this girl is an attention whore, whether or not she is fucked up. People that cut due to emotional problems are embarassed by it, people that are “proud” typically are attention whores and should be treated as such. Granted not every case is the same, but this is the typical situation.
