Emily's About-Time Training Log

It feels very much like you don’t need it. Lol

You’re right! I’ve been feeling really good and motivated. Which is a bit surprising - I’ve committed eating and drinking crimes without any repercussions whatsoever. No inflammation recently, no feeling like I’m not up to a workout.

I’ll have to dig in and see what my deal has been - have I had more rest days because of the goings-on, more calories or fats, etc.

Snowy 3 mile walk with Louie. Interestingly*, my heart rate is a good bit higher during these cold weather walks, like 125 vs 106 average, and today’s snow (and holding onto The Tank with patches of ice under the snow) increased that further, which I would have expected because I was in winter hiking boots and clothes, but this was a thing even on the dry road with lighter clothes.

*Interesting: I realize that this is not objectively so, haha, but I have a thing for meaningless data.

Note: When I say “walk” I’m talking about on a road, generally dirt (hard-pack, actually). “Hiking” refers to trails, generally rocky and with steep sections and streams and such to jump across, or from rock to rock.

Lastly, I looked in the mirror after I showered and was pleased. Here is a quad progress pic.

Still Tuesday

2 mile snow storm hike, maybe 6” of snow. This was on a loop trail, so rolling rather than steep. Lovely. This is our first storm this year. Louie seemed to love it!

I love the quiet hush of heavily falling snow.

CG Max R2 day 16/50 - sumo squats, alternating chest press, bridge, supine row, bulgarian lunge, arnold press, rotational row - with 10 minute cardio warmup. Fantastic! OMG, I loved today. I woke up super excited to do it, I think because I checked to see what today held last night, which was a first for me. I think I still get imposter syndrome, and tend to feel intimidated by my workouts as I’m drinking coffee and goofing off. But this morning I was all ready to go - all the lifts were ones I like and I was anxious to start and have plenty of time. It made a big difference. I have more to say, but it’s a work day, so no time right now.

CG Max R2 D17/50 - stability ball rollout, single-arm diagonal sweep, heel elevated squats, lateral and frontal raise, rear delt row - with 10 minute walk and CG warmup. I’ll take Louie out later for a real walk - it was just too cold this morning to do anything more than give him an opportunity to pee, which he refused to do in the yard (too cold to go out into the gorgeous 2.6 acre yard, not too cold for an official walk. Goofy dog.)

Brisk 30 minute walk. Ran out of time or would have gone much longer. The bitter cold has broken, which is nice.

Set the alarm for 5:30 this morning, got up ready to go, then wound up dithering over whether to walk Louie or lift, which took time (what clothes to put on, indoor or out) then fell into a Christmas presents convo with husband and found myself dressed for lifting without time to do it. Changing into winter gear would have meant a super short walk, so blew that off too, as Louie will be home alone today. He’s out with husband now. I’m headed into work.

Trying to remember to give myself grace. It’s two weeks before Christmas and we have 15 people to shop for and host over the course of a week. It’s okay to just stand around flapping my hands helplessly, I tell myself. But my stomach is knotted from the stress of not doing what I planned to do on top of all the other stuff.

You’ll be ok. I’m sure you’re a very gracious and thoughtful host of holiday festivities.
