Emily's About-Time Training Log

Yes, hot off the presses - the workouts may even still be dropping weekly, I’m not sure. I agree about her creativity. I love the variety within the programs in terms of pace and reps, and I feel like I’m gaining invaluable information about the many ways to go about it all along with her form focus. I honestly - and I’m pretty aware of the scene where I am - don’t think I could match the quality of her programming with a personal trainer who is “individualizing” a program for me. She has series that combine cardio and strength, harder-core, lighter-core…just so many options.

This one (Max) seems perfect for summer, because I can do all five workouts in a week or just do two and call it good enough. I’ll come back to it over and over again, I suspect.

Fantastic timing then. As you mentioned in my log, summer is for being outside, but lifting enough to get away with summer eating.

Exactly! I work out so I can run and climb and swim and play.

Speaking of which, I need to get my bike out and tuned up. I keep forgetting.

CG Max day 5/50 - supersets with ab work, bi- and triceps, banded abduction and bridges, sissy squats, and dips - with 2 mile walk/run warmup. I loved today. I love supersets - it just goes so quickly.

Feeling good!

You guys! I just came from my annual checkup and we had a conversation about my cholesterol, which is not much down from last year, though it is better than 2023. So she says that it’s probably hereditary, and asks if anyone in my family has it, to which I respond that I have no way of knowing because everyone died so young.

Anyway, so we talk about my diet and exercise over the past year+ and the difficulty I’m having losing weight for the first time in my life (along with everything else). I brought up GLP-1’s and say that I realize I wouldn’t qualify for a prescription or insurance coverage (she agrees), so I’m not asking for that, but they’re everywhere now (she agrees, “you can get them online”) so what I am asking is “what do you think about that for me?” And she responded “I actually think that would be a really good idea for you. I would support it.”

I feel so much lighter! I have everything together now for it and had planned to just do it at work and keep it a complete secret, but I told my husband this morning because it just didn’t feel okay not to. To get the blessing of my doctor, though…and to be able to tell HIM that she agrees with it for me given my inflammation and cholesterol. I’m super happy and relieved.

I wanted to post about it, but I’ll be taking my first shot in just a second.

@s.gentz @throwawayfitness (I’m doing what you both suggested) @QuadQueen

I love my doctor so much.

That is awesome. My one neighbor has been using them for a while now, and the results are :fire:.

So you can drop some lbs., give your heart a little less to do, and your doc is completely on board and aware of your plan.

I also agree with having husband in the loop. Like, if he notices (he will) a start of weight loss, appetite, etc. Its plausible to thing that a health concern could be behind it.

CG Max day 6/50 - banded RDLs, shoulder press, banded hip thrusts, chest press, static lunges, pullovers - with 1 mile walk warmup. I wasn’t really feeling the walk this morning, but we were out hiking yesterday.

Got my bike out and aired up. Husband announced “I need to start running,” which was a little surprising, but okay. I guess he’s thinking to start recreational hockey this winter. So we took my bike to a low-traffic road and he and Louie ran alongside me so we can start acclimating Louie to the whole bike thing, which didn’t seem necessary at all - he kept pace beautifully without any shenanigans.

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads!

CG Max day 7/50 - goblet squats, bridges, lateral raises, chest flies, bulgarian lunges, high reps - with 15 min/1 mi cardio workout. This was fun! It’s been a while since I’ve done the cardio thing for warmup, and it was nice…good mobility and stretch. The switch to hypertrophy training was also a nice change.

Louie is at daycare for a half-day today. It’s not going to be a regular thing, we just want to get him acclimated a bit before we board him to go on vacation. We went yesterday for a quick visit and everyone loved on him and he was super excited to go back today. Until I handed the leash to the lady. Then he wanted to leave with me. That was hard.

I noticed running with Louie this morning that I’m making mind-muscle connections that I don’t recall being there when I ran before. Now I’m noticing my glutes, feeling my core, etc. It’s nice!

That’s so awesome! I noticed that when I started running again too. Being able to get those big muscles recruited.. game changer.

I don’t know that I have enough “game” for it to matter, but it is a nice difference in the way I perceive things. I think previously I felt my body as a system, with all the parts moving nicely together. Very satisfying, which it still is. I was listening to a Wiz Khalifa interview while I showered, and he was talking about listening to music stoned, and hearing the flute as an individual thing rather than as a part of the whole. It’s that now. The system still, but also the individual parts.

If I continue (we’ll see how it goes) it’ll be fun to progress to the point that I can orchestrate the parts, which is where I think you must be.

Life is good.

Here is my lunch today. It is the exact same lunch I have had on work days for several months now.

This is why I drink. (lol)

As a big fan of chicken salads, I’ll say you nailed it on the colors and flavors.

I would definitely drink too if I had that every day. Probably something light and bubbly like ginger ale.

I’d love to throw a hardboiled egg on top of that.

I support that message.

Looks like we’re all in agreement on Emily’s lunch.

@EmilyQ , looks like you have to add an egg.
:man_shrugging:t2:. Sorry. Its the consensus.

Haha, @SkyzykS @T3hPwnisher @Friedrich I did hard boiled eggs in my lunch salad for like two years - consuming 6 per week at one point. Then I went off them, for reasons not remembered. I bought a couple recently and never felt like eating them (yes, I know I could boil them myself), so they’re in the fridge, expiring.

I don’t mix the chicken in with the salad at this point because that started grossing me out. I can go a good long while on repeated foods, but then hit walls.

Meanwhile, I eat 2 whole and 4 whites probably 5 days a week, with cholesterol that remains stubbornly high.

The idea of an egg in the salad with chicken alongside DOES sound pleasingly yellow and good, though. I SHALL TAKE IT UNDER CONSIDERATION.

They expire on the 30th.

And maybe mix that chicken with some plain Greek yogurt, mustard and herbs/spices of your liking and make a creamy chicken salad for something different and some extra protein. A little avocado might be a nice addition too, if the egg doesn’t make it.
