Emily's About-Time Training Log

Husband was with us, so we’d have survived I suppose, but thank you!

We’ll drop bread crumbs from now on. :upside_down_face:

The consistency! You are crushing it. Liking Iron so far?

I’m struggling with the combination of waking earlier to get it done 5 days a week and the time change. It’s also hard - I had to adapt to the beginner program’s higher reps and variety of lifts for each muscle group as I’d always done just the basics. So I went way down in weight when I started it and still really felt it. Iron is just a little longer, little harder. Today, for example, we did 1000 hamstring and glute moves:

RDL
RDL

BANDED HIP THRUST - SLOW
PAUSED AT TOP HIP THRUSTS
1 1/2 REP HIP THRUSTS

HAMSTRING HIP THRUST
HAMSTRING HIP THRUST

STAGGERED RDL
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!

LUNGE TO STAGGERED RDL
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!

SINGLE LEG HAMSTRING LIFT
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!
SWITCH SIDE!

FINISHER!

WEIGHTED HAMSTRING THRUST!

I’m used to 3 sets of whatever for each muscle group, so it’s a challenge. But then I find myself all but dancing into work because I feel so good, so there you go.

I can’t say I’m loving it the way I did the beginner, but I do feel good and accomplished. I suspect I’ll get to “love” after completing this first round and restarting, which I’ll do through the app (10 week instead of 6).

Also, I’m really gearing up for a cut at the first of the year. I’ll be done with Iron mid-December, deload a bit (haha, “deload,” nice euphemism for “blow everything off and enjoy Christmas”), then hopefully hit the challenge hard.

That sounds pretty good. It also sounds difficult, 1000 reps

Very nice. It looks like you will have enough time between this year’s cut and the next to let everything recover. Not claiming to be an expert, complete bro observation here. With the bulk between my last cut and my current, it’s been so much easier and the weight drop in the first few weeks was incredibly satisfying. I hope you get the same results.

My goal for the moment is to maintain, which I see as the fine line between bulking and cutting. What I secretly hope is that I’m recomping my ass off, but I do understand that this is probably not realistic.

30 minutes treadmill - 10 EMOM sprints, a single very brief (.3 mile) run. Still some random twinges in my lower back, but other than that, it all felt really good. I spent some time mindfucking whether or not to try increasing steady run distance, but it was light, pleasant mindfucking, if that makes sense. Not torment. I think I’ve successfully switched my primary drive over to lifting. My body feels fantastic as I write this.

Quality, as @simo74 would say.

Haha, possibly an exaggeration. But really, how many varieties of hip thrusts at two sets of 8-16 (it’s timed, but at the pace she goes, about that many fit in) do we need?

But then there is of course the question of who looks like her, and who looks like me, and so 1000 MFing hip thrusts it is, lol.

It does seem excessive to a point, but yes, the results speak for themselves when you look at her!
When the weights are low, it’s time to go to rep City!

There are too many things I could say, but most are inappropriate

so I will just go with, Quality.

Only my weights are low, though! It’s actually pretty cool to be doing this early program - she’s gained a good bit of mass since recording it, as well as leaning out just a bit.

Day 9/30 Iron - full body - with 10 minute cardio warmup.

I’m getting ready to head out for play time outside and possible tent camping overnight. It’s my husband’s annual “shoot ‘n’ shit show,” which is comprised entirely of bad behavior.

My plan is to come home this evening because I worry about Buttons, but then we talked about pulling the tent closer to the fire pit, which would be very reassuring (in easy view, she loves the tent and the air mattress). Her sight is just so poor now, and along with the lack of hearing freaks me out because it makes her unpredictable. But we’ll see. If I stay over I’ll come home before the shooting part tomorrow and return to my good behaviors. But not before I eat one of my husband’s signature breakfast burritos, which have egg, sausage, bacon, cheese, and tater tots in them. OMG, they’re good heated up on the grill.

My weight is down a bit today - I anticipate a quick reversal of that happy trend. But I’ll be happy to see the gang of goons and eat the bad food and drink the bad drinks. At the wedding we attended a couple of weeks ago I tipsy-invited a LOT of people (the goons were all at the wedding). For instance, the bride’s parents, who seemed really nice, lol.

Day 11/30 Iron - legs - 20 minute cardio warmup, stretching after. Tough going today, and I almost aborted. Everything is sore, and possibly I’m having an inflammatory response from the weekend’s excess. I’m glad I kept going, though, because now it’s done and in the books.

Today is supposed to be a posterior chain workout, but I’m having to take it off because I’m really feeling hips and back, and am afraid of another flare of something. I’ve dropped the mobility work due to lack of time, which probably needs to come back onboard.

Meanwhile, I’m at a conference all day tomorrow and Friday that starts early far enough away that I don’t see getting a workout in, so it looks like I’ll be on deload for the rest of the week. Trying to keep myself from mindfucking it all too much. (There’s a schedule! A schedule! AND NOW I’M NOT ON IT!!!)

Plus the food will be wacky at the conference. Conference food - sure to leave me both looking and feeling good!

My life is hard, yo.

Then Sunday I’m hosting a family birthday party. This shouldn’t be so bad - requested dinner is steak and chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and ice cream sundaes instead of cake. 13 people, though, and the house hasn’t had any attention recently because of the camping. I may wind up with an entire week of deload.
