Eighty to 100 Pound Muscular Gains
BrickHead wrote:

Thank you for admitting that.
Granted strength isn’t linearly related to size, but there is indeed a relationship.
Yes, a genetic one that is not directly related to muscular size.
One can become stronger without becoming bigger, but am increase in muscle size leads to increase in strength.
What does this have to do with a 700lbs bench press and 20" arms directly?
And although one can become more efficient, it comes to an end eventually. Hence why it takes HUGE muscles to bench 700 and squat 1000. There are no slender people doing that.
So, you think that means anyone that size can bench about the same?

You have a way of spilling out words that don’t really add much to your point at all.

None of this explains why you think that to be near that size I have to bench the same or near it.

…and I think you spend way too much time only making posts about me. I mean, seriously, I bet if we looked, more than 70% of the posts you have ever written are probably about me on this forum.

He can think what he wants. It is the making threads so everyone else thinks the same angle I am responding to.

I doubt most here see me as “fat” unless comparing directly to contest condition…but thank you for your opinion…about me…again.

Right. Type of training counts too.

Here’s what: anyone with 20" lean (NOT contest lean) arms and a 700 pound bench press is far, far more muscular than almost all on this board.

No, see my post about the relationship between size and strength not being linear. Strength achievement depends on training style and genetics.

Alright.

I never said one has to bench in the low 700’s to be Chabot’s size. I did say that to do that one needs a ton of muscle mass that you’re not sporting. I wouldn’t have brought you up had someone not mentioned you and you hadn’t started comparing yourself as well.

X: One other thing.

If I’m so foolish and ignorant, then you can just consider me the village idiot of T-Nation and pay me no mind, right? I mean, if I’m saying such wrong things or coming to illogical conclusions, wouldn’t the judgment of others just take care of things itself. They’ll think to themselves, “Oh, there’s that silly guy again,” and be on their way, right?

Dude, it’s pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain who the village idiot is on these boards. You’re good.

Maybe, maybe not. If 15 people are yelling a lie (like you said your back is bigger than Rockel’s) then some newb may believe the lie if no one speaks against it.

Same here. If you run around telling everyone I am “25% body fat” someone may actually believe it if no pictures are shown.

So take this as my way of making sure your perspective actually meets some level of truth.

open yo mout baby, here comes da truth

Wrong choice of words. I used them because I get the impression that you feel that my views on some things–like in this thread, namely the topics of 80 to 100 pound muscular gains, astounding physical characteristics like 18 to 20 inch arms, and what 250 to 300 pound somewhat lean behemoths–are highly flawed.

I’m not insulted in the slightest by this, but I’m unsure as to why you would think my reasoning is so flawed.

I mean, I see guys who sport those kind of stats and characteristics and no one on this board except perhaps for Synergy or other guys I don’t know about on here looks like them.

Yes, this can happen if enough people say something and in particular say it loudly and aggressively enough (kind of like how our modern news media works).

I guess where the problem comes from is that I’ve estimated (I can’t know from pictures) your bodyfat to be 25% at times (you say you’re leaner now), and I actually believe my estimation has some merit. I don’t know how this is a bad thing. To me, it’s on par with estimating someone’s height. It’s kind of like me seeing someone who I know for a fact is 6 feet and then estimating the guy standing next to him who is a bit shorter to be about 5’10" or 5’11".

So the same thing applies here: I see guys who are your height or a bit taller or have adjusted comparison by taking height into account who’ve had the same weights you have, and their body compositions look quite different from yours. This comparison and estimation does NOT discredit your accomplishment, which I think is a 30 to 40 pound muscular gain and you believe is a near 80 pound gain. I consider this 30 to 40 pound muscular gain as VERY good because by comparison, the upper limit of gain is “ABOUT 50 pounds” or “50 pounds give or take few” (who knows the exact one can gain?).

I still can’t see how any of this is negative.

It sure was. It is a tactic I see often here though…ie. “didn’t you call my way of doing things stupid” when nothing like that was written.

I think your own personal bias influences what you believe so profoundly you ignore what is right in front of you. I had 18" arms in that picture of me kneeling in my parents back yard from a decade or more ago and I have grown much since then. I got there within 3 solid years of training.

Read above.

I am not sure how to even respond to this. I am sure Kingbeef has arms within the “18-20 inch” range just like I do. Why only give that credit to Synergy?

I can’t see how any of this is written without people daring to ask where the numbers are coming from.

I am not sure how to even process what you just wrote. If a person had 130lbs of lean body mass at the start and they get to 210lbs of lean body mass, they have gained 80lbs of elan body mass.

You seem to look at that and bring in any criteria you can think of to discredit some of that lean body mass. You used “age of maturity” before to do this…while ignoring that it is highly unlikely most of the bodybuilding competitors of the last 70 years started AFTER the age of maturity or the age of 21.

x2

Back when Synergy was at a similar weight as PX is now, he had a completely different look to him. Synergy looked much more dense and muscular because he was leaner.
