Egg White: Raw vs. Cooked

Hey guys,

Have a 8-5 job everyday, and so I do not have time to cook egg whites during the day. Can I drink raw egg white during my job?? What is the nutritional difference between drinking raw eggs vs. having them cooked??

Your insight will be highly appreciated.

I know a guy that drinks the uncooked, pasturized egg whites. He swears by it, but I dont know abobu it. I suppose if you can stomach it why not, but I cant, it makes me gag.

Aww, poor baby. I’m sorry, no one here has a job so we can’t help there. Most of us just sit around by the pool eating steaks all day. Good thing some of us don’t have families or school, or maybe a second job either, that would make training impossible!

Why are you being a douche? All I wanted was some advice. If you can’t post anything constructive, then leave and engage yourself with your “busy” life.

Raw sounds nasty man! Can’t you cook aload up before bed, cold for the next day?

I dunno - does your employee handbook say you can’t?

No, no, no…if you can stomach a chug, then rock on.

To the OP:

You need to prepare for battle:

Forkit, I slurp down eggs if I’m short on time in the morning. I’m not sure of the chances of getting salmonella poisoning. So to answer your question, yes, it is possible. Boiled eggs are the next best thing and would keep longer unrefrigerated.

Ehh, I guess that caught me at a bad time. You’re right about the douche comment. I’m sorry, that was rude of me.

Cooking typically makes more nutrients available in food and eggs are no different. In raw form only about 50% of the protein can be assimilated by your body, but once you cook it and denature some of the more complex proteins the rate increases to around 90%, just something to keep in mind.

I would think that a protein shake would be better on a few counts.

1.) Better tasting
2.) Doesn’t require refrigeration.
3.) Higher bioavailbility.
4.) Easy to add flavor/other nutrients to.

I drink shitloads of whole raw eggs on days when I’m low-carbing it, I don’t see why you can’t man up and drink the pasteurized shit, it doesn’t have any flavor.

But I could still think of numerous meals that would be easier/more beneficial.

You won’t be getting the most out of egg whites if you chug them raw. I do it too sometimes when I’m really short on time. Just don’t make it a habit. You’ll be losing precious nutrients.
