Just wanted to let everyone know that EDT Tracker 1.0 has been completed and can now be downloaded at http://www.brienv.com for the amazingly low price of $0.00! :-) It's much improved over the beta version I mentioned two weeks ago.
I started using EDT recently and liked it so much that I decided to write a program to help myself and others track their EDT workouts.
Main features :
- Very simple to use
- Real-time charts (one for each exercise) shows progress during workout (individual sets and total reps so far)
- Chart also displays comparison of previous matching workout
- Export workout data
- View workout history
The basic idea is that at the beginning of your workout you enter a time period (e.g. 15 minutes) and select which exercises you’re working. You can also specify a previous workout to use as a comparison. Each time you complete a set, you just click the appropriate button or a number key for the number of reps you just did. Your set is tracked and a real-time chart shows your progress so you can easily tell if you’re on track to beat your last workout (which is the main reason I wrote it).
A countdown timer is also displayed during the workout and, if necessary, you can even pause and resume. The comparative charting is actually really cool. You can always tell at a glance if you’re falling behind on beating your PR. I’ve been using it in my own workouts and find that seeing the progress graphically almost makes them ‘fun’ and helps give me a little more drive. But I’m an engineer so I guess I’m weird like that…
Any comments or help in getting the word out about the program are most welcome.

p.s. If you haven’t tried EDT yet, I highly recommend checking out the books or DVD (available here on T-Nation). The strictly timed “PR Zones” have really helped focus my workouts, resulting in both time savings and improved conditioning. I’m a lazy procrastinator by nature so the structure and built-in competitive component of EDT also ends up forcing me to do more actual work during my workouts.
