I find this works well from just about everyone
Unless someone specifically requests feed back, the above is what I like to give particularly when itās a mile stone that they are super excited to achieve.
For me, nothing takes the wind out of my sails like hitting a big mile stone and then thinking maybe depth wasnāt spot on or whatever. Itās a buzz kill. There are times for that like when someone asks for it.
Mile stones are for high fives and you go girls.
Iāll stir the pot on this a bit.
If someone isnāt looking for feedback, whatās the point in logging?
And if itās a legal DL or bench, it doesnāt matter how ugly it is. But if itās not a squat to depth, whatās the point of lauding it as a PR?
That being said, Iām sure all of us sift through the advice thatās given and consider the source as well as what works for our own bodies.
Stop stirring the Pot Snap:) There are more than one reason to post videos. One is for feedback. I see them all the time. Some, like the ones posted in Powerlifting PRs are for high fives and look how great Iām doing. They donāt get feedback because thatās not the point of them. I didnāt break down Dixies 600 plus deadlift to let him know where I think he could have gotten a few extra lbs and fine tuned things. I made fun of his shorts and gave him a high five.
Iāve remarked on my own PRs when depth may have been shy because I had a crap ton weight on my back, went down with it and came back up. Itās a lead in to legit comp PRs. You could really split hairs and say that gym PRs donāt count at all because there were no white lights to prove they exist.
The only advice I heed is the advice Iāve requested from solid sources. Often people handing you advice like candy at halloween donāt have the time in or the experience to do more than point to instructional videos. You know as well as I do that gym experience does not equal competition experience.
FTR, I never drop my deadlifts. I have more respect for my own equipment. Plus itās a terrible habit to get into if you ever plan to complete. Below is a recent training deadlift video that illustrates, what many people consider the safe and appropriate way in which to lower the bar. Deadlift suit bottoms 310 - YouTube
