Eddie Hall Won't Recognize Thor's Deadlift Record

100% this. It’s called GREAT Britain damnit. I don’t know if you know but we’re kind of a big deal.

Of all the countries larger than 90,000m², the UK (we’ll even give you a bit more land) is the 5th smallest. Big enough to not be considered a dwarf but it’s head is low enough to rest your beer upon.

It’s because of publicity. They barely push WSM, but the entire lifting world knows who Arnold is so they tune in. Rogue sponsors the whole thing as do energy drink companies and such so there’s a ton of money in it.

Personally, most of the Arnold events are quite boring to me, but WSM hasn’t been much better as of late. The only thing I was excited about was the trial of stones thing.

There’s something about the best lifters in the world doing mostly static events inside of an air conditioned, controlled room that is the same every year that doesn’t excite me like 90’s-2000’s strongman did. Even the qualifiers for the Arnold (albeit outside) was hard to watch. A log press, deadlift, short farmers walks and a bag over bar. And it was 6 hours.

Concur. This is an awful era of strongman. As typical as it seems, I blame social media. Much more demand for/far easier to capture a 1rm on a lift than understand what’s a good medley time or appreciate a high rep car deadlift.

Nobody should care if Eddie recognises these lifts or not, it’s just not important.

He was pulling the same shenanigans with Makarov and the worst thing to do is to humour him and argue his points - there is no counter argument or addressing his issues that will satisfy him.

He should be treated the same way you treat a troll, that will stop this silliness but people can’t help themselves.

I agree with everything he says about the strongman competition etc.

This isn’t really a strongman record but a World Record. More like guiness world records rather than a competition record is how I look at it.

He also mentioned Eddie’s deadlift “competition” was completely set up for Eddie to set that record.

My dude, I do not know how I could make this more obvious.

It should be obvious to Thor that you can’t get an official world record in your home gym, out of competition. Even with Magnus officiating, it just seems like something you’d avoid simply because you’d have to know anyone supporting the previous record holder would always be able to question it.

That being said, Eddie just looks like a bitch here, because he’s so painfully insecure about everything. If we’re going to talk unsubstantiated rumors, there are far MORE rumors about Eddie’s dubious win than there are about Thor’s group of Icelandic thugs that intimidate their way to victory. If we’re going to talk hypocrisy because Thor got angry IN COMPETITION (understandable) at a referee, then Eddie’s going to have to explain why he gave Magnus the prefix “the legend that is…” while simultaneously questioning his ability to judge fairly. The “world record” would have been questioned by Eddie’s fanboys anyway, but he has to get out ahead of it by talking trash on a youtube video, and THEN making a shirtless instagram post holding his WSM trophy in front of a bunch of other trophies? It all just screams insecurity.

Bottom line: if you compare Thor’s Strongman achievements to Eddie’s…well, there simply is no comparison. Thor is right -the only competition Eddie has ever won outside of the UK was WSM 2017, by 1 point, at a WSM that everyone who is not an Eddie fanboy acknowledges as being “tailored” to Eddie’s strength of being statically super strong.

The Deadlift WR is all Eddie has to hang his hat on. The surprise would be if he were NOT up in arms over the proposed scenario.

BTW, does anyone know if Eddie Hall ever competed at the Arnold in Ohio? (I see no results with his name) Seems like it should’ve played to his strength there given it’s the “heaviest” show around.

Eddie did compete in the Arnold a few years back now. There is a movie called Born Strong which I think is still on Netflix that shows him competing with Thor, Big Z and Shaw. Brian is up and coming at the time (according to movie) and doesn’t do that well. (Came 9th. Big Z won)

Eddie competed 2015 (6th) and 2016 (9th) and i think he said he stopped going to focus on WSM. I think he knew he never stood a chance there. His Static strength is only good with sub max weights #ShotsFired and JKing he is obv a beast but among Arnold Competitors he doesnt really fare well.

Can we just take a moment though to appreciate the league that these gentlefolk are in. “You have never won a Strongman competition outside of the UK” is an insult.

For the record he has won Britains 5 times, UKs 6 times Englands twice.

“Gentlefolk” had me seek out this clip of Samuelsson apologising to another competitor after accidentally breaking his arm during arm wrestling (WSM 1995),

Two reasons for that - he knew that Nathan Jones’ arm was in the “Arm breaker” position (Samuelson was a top arm/wrist wrestler before Strongman) when it was happening, and Jones was a nutbag who was threatening to kill him for breaking his arm.

Had no idea. I should try and find out more

Jones has since been jailed for bank robbery, among other issues, and took a run at pro wrestling I think too. Back in the day man. Some seedy characters sometimes.
