Eddie Hall Won't Recognize Thor's Deadlift Record

I get it’s for the money but at least assumed this guy would have a fighting chance but he looks like he’s never even seen a gym let alone a boxing ring.

So 6’8 maybe 330lbs vs 6’1 or so maybe 260lbs?

Bring on the freakshow!!!

You are missing one of the biggest parts of boxing - its a fight. I can think of a loads of okay MMA fighters, who had no venom. Technically sound but lacked real intent. Where as the greats might not have been as sound technically. But went out to kill.
My guess is we will see a technical Thor. Who can box, can move about and will take his shots. But we will see a brawler in Eddie. Who will not look to box but destroy. Constant forward pressure and big body shots.

The thing is you have to be a REALLY good boxer to get past a brawler. I also think Eddie is playing his cards close to his chest for a reason. He says he’s had closed door matches. I genuinely think he is telling the truth. I think what he’s putting out there in the training videos is a purposefully poor. He has a very open guard in the videos. And is very aggressive in its defence. That’s not how you box against a man that much taller than you with (assumed) great power. Cover up, get close and work the body.

Anyway it doesn’t really mater. 2 guys having a boxing match about a work place argument from 5 years ago? It is a bit silly really. That said I will watch.

100% disagree. Imo boxing is the easiest fighting art to get past a brawler. The myth of the “one punch knockout” is highly overrated.

Street fight I would favor Hall; boxing is at the opposite end of the spectrum. Sweet science. There’s a reason a nice guy with a flabby physique is the heavyweight champion.

And yes, the hype is so stale by now that viewing is free.

Tell that to anyone that boxed Mike Tyson. Brawling is also not about the 1 punch knock out. It is quiet the opposite in fact. Its about the constant suffocating aggression.

Because Tyson Fury is a REALLY good boxer. One of the best ever. He boxes like no one else.

All I’m saying is - aggression is key part of this. And I can see Eddie coming out to hurt Thor. Where as I think Thor will come out to box. And given his lack of training / fighting experience I think this distinction “could” be important.

If you think Mike Tyson was a “brawler”, then you and I are unfortunately talking two different languages.

Prime Mike Tyson >>> Tyson Fury.

You’re referring to heavyweight only, I hope.

Thor is telling Martins that he’s now lighter than Martins. Which means Thor is 350lbs tops.

Mike Tyson, in his prime, was a skilled boxer under the coaching of one of the greatest in the sport, having taken “Peek-A-Boo” to it’s logical conclusion by having it employed by a dude who had the sheer physicality to really emphasize the brutality of it.

Toward the end of his career, he was absolutely a brawler, just relying on power and looking to finish the fight in one punch, because he had that kind of power, but when he was the champ? A student of the game.

I see it “almost” the same. People are too absolutist about styles. Could Tyson box? Yes. Better than most / all of the heavy weights at the time. Or ever. But does that make him a boxer or a brawler?
I mean this line kinda sums up my thoughts.

To my mind boxing is about patience, picking your spot and timing. I look at Tyson’s early fights and I do not see someone trying to figure out their opponent. Looking for openings to exploit. I see someone who’s using GREAT boxing skill to smash the crap out of someone. His defining characteristic was his aggression. Not skill. And again - not saying his was not massively skilled. Only that he was ore aggressive then skilled.

Because to me a brawler is not the 1 punch knock out. It is about the suffocating aggression. I’d call Ricky Hatton a brawler as well. But he was not know for his power. Just that ever pressing forward mentality.
Guys like Mayweather, Pacquiao were boxers of that weight class. They had many different way to win.

I don’t know. Maybe. But only because there is no one else in the HW division to push him. Fury is the best HW for a generation. There is no one to push him. And you can only beat whats in front of you.

That’s certainly A style of boxing, and it’s a dandy thing to do when you’re an outfighter, but I don’t feel like many dudes who were too short for their weight class could employ such a style. Tyson took after Dempsey, who was similarly undersized when he fought Jess Willard

I very much disagree, and maybe it’s because I’ve used Peek-a-boo as well to the point that I really appreciate just how skillfully Tyson employed it.

So, Eddie is apprently coming into the fight recovering from a chest infection and a concussion. If the fight gets cancelled again, it will probably never happen.

Got to get the excuses in early, it’s like rubbing your hamstring before your last deadlift so you can say your hammy is strained when you mis it :joy::joy::joy:

I think this one will go ahead. But I will say it again:
Fighting an old colleague over a work place dispute is over the top.

Although I think this is more about “keeping up appearances” now. But hey - it will be “interesting” to say the least.

Eddie and Thor had a confrontation, with Eddie being his usual classy self. People are saying It got heated because Eddie spat on Thor, but I don’t see it in the video.

Video was taken down (obviously). Here is Thor’s (PR person) written statement on the incident (starts at 5:53 mark):

Aw man. Someone tell them to grow up.

I’m not saying anything Thor says is wrong. At all. I can 100% see Eddie setting up a show down. Spitting in him and making this whole thing 10 times less adult. But even the written statement is childish.
Obviously some thing Eddie set up.
I did spit but here’s my excuses.
He wants to make it a street fight. Not me.

Fuck off. Fighting someone Because you don’t like them is pathetic. The only adult thing for either to do (if it is real) is call it off.

You know what at the start I REALLY wanted this not to be fake. A bit of bad blood would make for a great fight. But as times gone in I’m praying more and more it is fake. As watching 2 grown men act like this is shocking.

I haven’t followed this fight or these guys at all, but I came across this video:

Neither Thor or Eddie may be good boxers (I have no clue), but they’re strong as hell, and if Thor can literally break a dude’s esophagus, I can see some real (brain?) damage occurring from a match between these two.

You have to assume body shots will not be as effective. Thor / Eddie are strong and powerful. But the muscle mass on both with act as a buffer. If Thor hit Eddie that hard, Eddie still have enough muscle mass to press 180kg for reps. It’s not gonna do as much damage.

Head blows there is little in the way of protection if hit. I’d not want to be eithers father.
