Eddie Hall Won't Recognize Thor's Deadlift Record

With shot put.

I do not want to play dodgeball with Bud Jeffries.

not a chance this is true my man. nobody trains like that. He’s strictly going off feel and predictable progression, every decent strongman competitor does it. He knows what he’ll be able to do because he’s been in the sport so long and knows how his body will respond to continued training, and he knows what a 90% vs a 95% lift feels like, etc.

as far as the hype/back and forth between Eddie and Thor is concerned: Eddie doesn’t want Thor to break the record, and he obviously has influence over how his fanboys feel about it, but he’s not stupid, nor is Thor. They aren’t doing this just to hate on each other. The back and forth is ABSOLUTELY a scheme to promote the event. Let’s say Thor had just been training on his own, posting IG vids from time to time, and with no conflict with anyone else. Who would be interested in the May 2 event? The answer: a whoooooole lot fewer people than will be now that we have drama associated with the lift. The drama is, without question, intentional, for the sake of growing the sport and putting more money in everyones pockets if they’re associated with the sport.

Amen. You build at the gym, test at the contest, re-vamp based on how the test went.

So let’s see if this causes as much stir. Never thought I’d see the day powerlifting would be less catty than strongman, but this year might change my mind.

I just want to point out it’s a picture of Ed Coan, haha.

Fair point. Goes back to the Poundstone argument I suppose. As big as Maddox might be (figuratively and literally), he’ll never have the presence Coan has. Kind of sad honestly. Benching close to half a ton and you can’t even get your picture on the WR poster.

EDIT: Just went back to his page and he has a poster of him from a day or so ago. Coan must have just been accepted as the judge for the lift and that’s why he is the main focus of this one

My jimmies are russled LOL I do think they are doing what they can to show that these attempts will be as legitimate as possible and also using the biggest names possible to get the most publicity. I can get behind that.

In defense of Coan he is widely considered the GOAT and Julius is currently a Bench specialist.

I agree. I was under the impression as Pwn stated that they were using Coan to get viewership for Maddox’s lift (which they are doing obviously). I was saying it is sad they are doing this.

How cool would it be if Thor’s, Hall’s and Shaw’s kids all grew up to compete against each other in Strongman?

Obv a long shot, even if the genetics get passed down they need to choose that path.

The ā€œmy dad is stronger than your dadā€ arguments would be entertaining.

Depends if Thor’s kid gets his size from him or his wife.

How has she not been split in two?

Hahaha I spent a good 5 minutes trying to find a way to say basically that when I saw that picture. I’ve seen a lot of comments, both on here and social media regarding their size difference and sex lives, and my constant thought is:

She’s pregnant with his kid, so in a few months, we’ll see what she’s really capable of. Honestly, I’d already have the c-section scheduled.

If equipment doesn’t matter, Z pulled 1165 back in 2014. One of the virtues of strongman has been the fact that it acknowledges the ā€œhad to be thereā€ factor of strength competition. You can’t always compare two lifts. If Thor pulls 501, he’ll have pulled 501. And that’s a lot of weight.

And if someone wants to give him 100 grand of their money, that’s up to them.

It’s not really fair that others aren’t given the same shot at that payday, but life isn’t fair.

Well then they just have to try to lift 501

When it comes to the problem of giving more people the chance to have a go at the same record, to me that’s more an issue for some of the other attempts WUS is putting on, other than maybe Ivan Makarov, Who failed it not so long ago, who is there who has a shot at 500+ kg? Nobody. Pritchett, Heinla, Magnusson, Shaw, none of the other really big deadlifters could claim to be really close at the moment.
