Ectomorphs vs Mesomorphs

Hi guys!
Just curious about this one. Many Mesomorphs were lean in the 20s but once they reached their 40s they start to get the middle age spread. This is because their testosterone levels drop as they get older. It is believed when in your 20s your testosterone and metabolism is much higher and this hormone clings to fat and takes it out of your body. So that is why you stay lean in your 20s. Many are advised to do resistant training to counter the middle age spread.
Ectomorphs don’t seem to gain weight. My father is one. My questions if a mesomorphs ate 10 hamburgers and gained weight and a ectomorph did the same but didn’t gain weight where does the fat go in an ectomorph’s body. I am guessing it get stored somewhere whereas in a mesomorphs it gets typically stored in the abdomen. My father downs a lot of icecream and potato chips and doesn’t gain. If I do the same I gain. Interestingly my father has a much higher cholestrol level than I. Also are their testosterone levels still the same for ectomorphs in their 40s as they were in their 20s. They simply don’t gain weight but have a hard time building muscle I heard. Thank you’re time in reading this. Any thoughts are appreciated! Chris

Thats because body somatotypes are pseudoscience created by a hack of a psychologist.

How active is your father?

This x 10. It’s a bunch of nonsense, and there’s nothing useful about any “knowledge” that has anything to do with it.

Don’t believe in somatotypes. There is no pure meso, endo, or ecto. Each somatotype is associated with certain traits that anyone could have. For instance, I am building muscle very slowly compared to other people with similar training and diet, a characteristic of an ecto. But I have superior structure, wide shoulders (long clavicles), what they say to be the characteristic of a meso. So what am I?

Why do we need to categorize them in the first place? Humans are the result of millions genes expressions. It is not wise to group them in only 3 groups. I can go on and on.

While individual genetics for muscle gain varies(which doesn’t mean I’m endorsing somatypes), all you can tell about your father is that he has a faster metabilism than normal.

I have a fast metabolism. If I eat only when I’m hungry I will lose 50lbs. I do not have trouble putting on muscle when ample calories are available and consumed.

actually OP your simplifying the so called spread in men of 40 plus… Some of it could be blamed on decrease in T level in some or just natural decrease in ones metabolism. Some of it can be blamed on a decrease in physical activity in the form of exercise due to what ever reason( be it work or family demands) Part of it is some men past 40 arent that concern about maintaining a certain look. So the motivation is lacking for some … until a Doc suggest it. For the record im going on a limb and guessing im around your dads age.
