I am 5’11 classic ecto that with years of training been able to go from 143lbs up to 221lbs and presently down to an even 200lbs. I am torso dominant: Chest, shoulders and back develops fairly well while my limbs remain somewhat long and lanky.
As you can imagine, legs are somewhat long and thin, even though I can squat 435lbs and I am as serious about training my lower body as anything else. My problem really started once I started bulking up over the 200lb mark. While my legs did get a bit bigger and stronger, I seem to be “glute dominant” as well…my ass starts growing at a much faster rate than my quads/hams. This might be great for sprinting, but I am really looking to add some leg mass.
My question is other than the leg extension (BLAH), what are some tricks/suggestions you have to add some serious leg mass while limiting glute involvement? I do all the hardcore stuff (squats, front squat, deads, lunges, BB-hacks etc), but the glutes keep growing.
Have same problem, huge quads/glutes and no hams. Good mornings and stiff leg deadlifts are humbling to a guy with weak hams. Can you say 135 lb? Stick with it, it’s just a muscle imbalance thing and can be fixed.
Leg press can be pretty good for quad development, with a fair bit less glute involvement. Make sure to go all the way to do the bottom. Another thing to consider is fat storage on your ass. My legs are extremely lean, but I’d say most of the fat in my body is stored in my ass. People say I have quite the ghetto booty until I’m around 10% bf.
