Eating With Discipline

To those of you who have conquered the habit of eating without discipline …this question is for you. I am 22 and in great shape as a soccer player (thus always running and working out) but I want to take the appearance of my body to the next level - for me this next level is reducing my body fat. I know one cannot spot remove unless they get lipo, but the only part of my body I am critical on regarding body fat is my lower ab region (belly button and lower, as well as my obliques - the dreaded love handle) - they arent bad but compared to the rest of my body, you can tell that is where my fat stores are (like most guys). Since I run and lift alot, I am ALWAYS hungry --and I do mean ALWAYS. I started taking Ripped Fuel to help me curb my appetite but dont want to take those kind of pills anymore. My question is to all that have succeeded - how can I improve my discipline with eating? I eat good foods only…low carb and try to minimize sugar but I am always hungry and eating frequently. I knoe eating frequently is not bad but if I want to shed the excess bodyfat (only a couple of percentages) then I will have bare-minimum body fat… What can I eat that will fill me up but not deviate as a bad food? Any and all help will be appreciated. Should I go see a nutritionist?

No,the last thing you want to do is see a nutritionist. Consider this quote… “No food tastes as good as being ripped feels.” 'Nuff said!

Well, in regards to your discipline: it’s all up to you as to how much you want to acheive your goals.

As for nutrition tips. Have you checked out ANY of John Berardi's articles here in T-Mag? Also read "Foods that Make You Look Good Nekkid".

Something I caught in your post - you're on a "low carb" diet. So, with this I'm assuming high protein. Well, the brunt of protein foods will "satiate" you. In other words: cut down your cravings. Like red meat. And what exactly do you mean by "always.....working out"? What is your current weight training routine like? Have you checked Coach Davies' site, renegadetraining.com? He is working with soccer players, so any info from him would be helpful for you.

hey bro the bottom line is once you have decided that you really want it bad you will never want to eat that kind of shit anymore. if you are truly comitted to what you are doing it shouldnt be a problem.

I agree that you shouldn’t see a nutricionist. He’ll almost for sure put you on a high carb, low fat diet and we all know how well that works. The only thing i can think of right now that might help is eating a lot more vegetables. Things like steamed spinach, broculi, brussel sprouts, etc… have litle calories and can be quite filling. I eat a lot of these when dieting. Hope that helps.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies…it is always appreciated. First things first, to clarify, I have been playing soccer my whole like (19 yrs) and Im only 22. I run atleast 4-5 times a week for atleast 30 min at great pace …NOT walking or a brisk jog - I mean run. Sport specific weight training has been a part of my life for the last 6 years (starting right before I left for college) so I have great core strength…but as a soccer player, we are looking to be “wirey” - strong but not bulky. I have been in touch w/ Coach Davies and he def. knows his stuff but I think my issue now is lowering my body fat % than gaining strength. What tips do you have to help you feel full? I do eat alot of protein and I have begun to add Met-Rx Protein Plus bars to my diet so add more protein in while I am at work. What I meant by “always working out” - I meant that 5 or 6 days of the week I am either playing soccer or just flat out running. I just need to lose my body fat in my lower abs and obliques…they aren’t bad (I dont have “rolls”) but as I am very critical of myself, I dont want that body fat and thus must shed it off. Keep sending replies and tips. What are you diets like…if you can type it out, that would be great (ie: what a typical day’s diet is, comsumption breakdown, etc)

DUDE! All it takes is will power, I was eating 800 calories a day while taking mag-10 to diet with NO appetite supplessants! Me and my friends went to pizza hut and I just sat there on the floor in the phetal position rocking back and forth trying to keep my stomache from imploding and eating itself!

Weight training can do alot more than increase strength. By increasing your strength, you also increase your muscle mass, which will in turn increase your metabolism. By your already fast metabolism, you will more than likely need to increase LBM just a tad. That “tad” will make alot of difference - hence burn off that nasty little bit of excess BF.

I would follow some of Coach Davies' recommendation on weight training for your sport. You will find that they will help you in acheiving your goals, in terms of losing excess BF.

Also, with all your running around, the low carb intake is probably making your body want to hold onto that last bit of fat. You could probably up your carb intake a bit and see remarkable difference. Just a thought....

Upping my carbs…hmmm Whats the physiology behind that?

Soccer players in England have fantastic legs, Why do you want to be all thin?

What Patriicia is saying is that with all the running you are doing, plus below maintenance calories (if you are physically active, your want/needs carbs),your body goes into starvation mode, and holds on to fat stores. You may need to trick you body into releasing it’s grip on those stores.
