'Eat More Food'

Curious about the milk thing myself - I’ve seen numerous guys swear by it when bulking, but in one of the PCs CT went ballistic when someone was drinking it - he talked about it whacking out insulin levels, etc.

I’d like to hear more on the topic…

FWIW - 10 years ago it was suggested I hit the McDonalds drive-thru to bulk post-workout. Big Macs were like 4/$4. I did so for several weeks. It was a major mistake for me (at ~age 33) it started a fat gain that continued far too long for me…

I’ve been drinking 64oz of milk for a couple weeks now with no fat gain. I have been putting on muscle with authority though.

I used to go through a lot of milk when I was in my early 20’s. Towards 30 though, I would get stomach cramps if I downed more than 32oz at a sitting. Nowadays, I buy the Lactaid milk. Not because I buy into the adult-lactose-intolerance thing, but simply because it stays good in your fridge for a couple of months compared to regular milk. I have been curious if I could drink more of it though, but to be honest, I’d rather eat more solid food these days. Still, if you can handle that much milk, I say go for it. It’s cheap, high in protein, and as a liquid, doesnt fill you too badly.

Just remember, in the words of the great Will Sasso (Mad Tv)… “no one wins in a dairy challenge”

Is there a problem with drinking too much milk? Right now I’m drinking about 64oz 2% milk per day, if I double that then I’ll have no problem keeping up with my calories. Anyone currently drink a gallon per day?[/quote]

I love the stuff. Up until the last few weeks, I’ve been drinking mass quantities of milk every day. It was not uncommon for me to hit a gallon. Usually around 1/2 gallon, with the upper limit being 1.5 gallons for a brief time. Whole milk is a great substitute for meals if you need an emergency back-up plan, as busy students sometimes do.

Calories, protein, and no convenience store candy/fried stuff. I would rather get whole meals, but it has proven useful to me in the past (I’ve done this for years on end).

CT is right, it does spike insulin. However, my personal opinion is that if you are naturally lean and have a hard time putting on weight, then it is perfectly acceptable to do this. It was one of the only things that allowed me to gain weight, even though I was eating 6x a day or more with protein every meal.

Whole food is still better, but sometimes liquid meals make it easier to pack in the calories. For fat loss though, probably not a good idea at all (lots of carbs, spikes insulin, and allows water retention/bloat).

Then keep it up while it’s working. If it stops working, though, suck it up and change what you’re doing.
