DZ's Training Log

Had 1/2" here in Nj bet Sat night & Sun morn. Skipped my Sunday workout to go see my son wrestle up in NY.
How do you find doing presses and shoulders after a BP workout?
Hope all is well and that you & yours are in the Christmas Spirit Dave!

Thanks QT, same to you buddy! These first couple of workouts have been harder than I expected. Not the BP,but everything afterwards. I’m going to mix up the exercises next week, but stick with the basic plan.

Well, I did it again last night. I smashed the shit out of two fingers on my right hand. I was going to do deads today,
but gripping the bar didn’t sound like it would work too well, so I did squats.

Warm up with 5 minutes of hill climbing on the bike.

Squats
1x10xbar
1x8x135
1x6x185
2x10x245(65%)

Leg extensions
2x10x115

Leg Curls
2x12x130

Seated Calf Raises
2x15x90

Leg Press
2x10x280

I might have to take a couple days off. My fingers feel like they’re going to pop they’re so swollen.

that stinks about the fingers, guess u will have to do some extra legs

Which fingers? Can you use a strap for pulling movements once the swelling comes down a little? Can you use machines for pushing movements so you don’t have to hyper grip a bar?

Tough break DZ. Sorry to hear it. Quick healing!

You’ll be back to “normal” in no time! Train around them as best you can.

How’d you do that? Frustrating and inconvenient when training is interrupted eh? Like the other guys said… take the opportunity and shock the legs…

Thanks guys! Let me try to explain what happened. I’m a supervisor for a company that makes top of the line deli meats. I run the smokehouses on second shift, and I’m not the kind of supervisor who just bosses my guys around.

I’m right with them moving racks of product into and out of the houses, then onto the coolers for packaging. I had a rack with frozen wheels pulling me one way, and I’m fighting it to go another way. I’m usually very good at keeping my hands out of harms way, but this rack lurched sideways and caught my right hand between a doorframe and the rack.

1800lbs smashing my two middle fingers hurts like a sum bitch. The third finger got the worst of it.

Blood filled up the nail right away, and it swelled up pretty quick. Swelling’s down a little today, but I’m fairly certain I’ll loose the whole finger nail when the swelling goes down.

I’m the boss and I’m not supposed to do stupid shit like this, but most of us have done it at least once. It’s been a couple years since I’ve hurt myself like this, and now twice in the last couple months. The last one was getting my wrist caught between two 2500 lb racks.

I don’t like to whine about my injuries, I’d be whining all the time. So, no broken bones, I’ll take Friday off and see if I can do some deads on Saturday.

I feel your pain DZ. Im kind of in the same boat … spent two weeks taking things ‘easy’ while I had some work done on my neck and mid-back. I’m finally getting some ROM back and I roll on Wed and badly jam a toe. (Everyone said it was probably broken. It’s not, but it’s painful and colorful.) OK, I can live with that, but the round before that I heard a very loud “Pop!” and thought I’d just blown out an ACL. (Like, the pop was so loud that everyone stopped rolling and just stared at me with their mouth open.) Turns out I didn’t tear anything, but now the knee isn’t fully operational either.

So much for doing anything. The wounded toe is on the left foot and the bum knee is on the right. I’m not walking, it’s more like lurching. So much for lifting or cardio or … well, much of anything for a few days.

Hang in there … this too shall pass!

Cappy

Ooooh man…those toes are as bad as fingers, Cappy.

Tried to get in some pulling yesterday. Grossed out the guys in the gym when I showed them the damaged finger.

Off to the tree farm to cut a Christmas tree. Good news from the gym. It’s run by a husband and wife, and rarely is anyone else watching the place. So, the hours are really limited, closed at noon on Saturday, and closed on Sunday, usually three day weekends they’re closed. Yesterday the boss told me they’re going 24/7, and issuing key cards to full time members. My second shift schedule means sometimes I want to workout at weird times.

1800lbs on the fingers…ouch…once got a finger stuck in a car door and I still cringe when I think of it…I hope you heal soon

…you can have the whole gym to yourself at 3am in the morning…priceless!

Thanks! It’s still giving me trouble today, looks like the tip of the finger is going to pop. I wish it would just get it done.

Sorry to hear about the finger DZ.You are a focused fella to keep training.Heal quick my brother and my best to you and the your family.

when i get a good mashed finger and the WHOLE nail turns blue, and it is under a LOT of pressure, i like to bore a small hole thru it with a needle to relieve the pressure. just put a little pressure on the needle and spin it back and forth. do not do this over your wifes new carpet - it will shoot a ways.

Thanks guys. Yea, the wife told me I could relieve the pressure by putting a hole in the nail, but I’m a wuss.

Solid training brother. That nail thing has to run it course.ouch!!!Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Happy winter Solstice Daddyzombie. I’m shovelling the snow just like you. Brings back old times, not good times just old ones.

It’s that time of year DZ. A good solid year for you, lots of hard work and pay offs. You worked hard and it was worth it.

I’m hoping the coming year will present you with all the challenges you can handle. May you succeed at everything you attempt.

I will wish that your best day this year will be your worst day next year. Stay strong brother and do take the time to reflect on all the good things in your life. I wish you all the best for you and yours.

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

Streamline, aka Carl.

Heal up quick, and enjoy the family this holiday season.

And don’t forget to post a picture of “Giant-tractor-tire-of-death” that santa is bringing you, to go with those cider blocks I mean. You should be flipping it around the yard in no time at all!

Keep by the fires my cold weather freinds.
