Impressive DZ, and to think that those numbers are only going to get higher in the coming years.
Good point form Mday. You still have a couple more years in the age group so you can improve on those numbers.
My apologies for not keeping up with your workouts…I see some records were set in my absence as well…AWESOME job DZ!!!
Thanks guys! I like this federation, they’re good people. And even though it’s not real big, it’s kinda cool to have some state records for 100kg weight class, M2. I’d like to compete in the open class, but I’d get my azz kicked. ![]()
Man thats fantastic!

Lifting raw, I don’t think you’d get your ass kicked. Your kids and wife must be proud of their record holder.
DZ,would you answer a few questions for me?
1.How long do meets last? I’ve heard of ones not ending until midnight.
2. Do they use kgs or lbs?
3. anything you didn’t take with you that you wished you had

Great questions Eco.
In both meets I’ve done, weigh-ins started at 7:30, and lifting began at 9:00. Both lasted between 6 and 7 hours, including trophy presentaion. Kind of a long time, I’m good and ready for it to be over by then. It was difficult to be up for lifting for that long. The last one was kind of slow going, but I was in the second flight for all lifts so it just seemed to take forever. I should think that it would depend on the number of total lifters competing. There’s always more guys doing bench only than the full meet.
The federation I’ve been lifting in is an international federation. They say that’s why the use KG. They have a web site that explained all that, so, I knew it going into the meet and was prepared for it with a kilo conversion chart I found online. I’m not sure what your federation does, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to find out by checking their web site. I would look at their records, and see if they’re in Kg or lbs.
I believe in being overly prepared. I think I took everything but the kitchen sink. I love to drink iced tea, so, I wished I’d brought more of that than the water I took, just for the sugar content. Water and iced tea was all I took to drink. Make sure you have plenty of food. One meet had food for sale and the second did not. For both, I took several oranges, bananas, and two full boxes of breakfast bars. Some of which I shared with fellow lifters, who did not bring anything.
I hope that helps you Eco. Try not to be too nervous. That’ll pass after the first squat. One thing that I learned from my first meet really quickly. Many of us were first timers and the first 4 lifters did not get their depth on the squat. I was the 7th lifter, so I buried my squat for a good lift. A book, or MP3 would be good. There’s downtime while setting up the next lift, and you can’t spend the whole time warming up. I did that and had to warn up a second time because I started to warm up too soon. I’m certain you’re gonna kick ass Buddy! You are serious strong. Best of luck!

DZ, thanks for your help leading up to my meet. You trying to kill yourself with that last workout?
Nice work. I havent really varied my grip too much, do you see a diff. in the main lifts by doing it?

Not really…I just found a vicious arm routine back in the article archives that’s been pretty fun. I haven’t really done much grip variation but I may moving forward, that wide grip thing is pretty tough.

You’re very welcome Eco…I hope it was some help for you.
That workout just about did me in. I worked my ass off at home over the weekend, so this workout wiped me out. Gonna rest on Tuesday.
Bench, curls, squats, calf raises, abs all in one workout and in less than 40 minutes. This looks tough but very effective. Just getting everything set up in this amount of time must have been a minor miracle.
You’re right M…the set up is the trick to doing all of this. The article says to have a partner, but I don’t.
