Way to keep at it DZ. Your numbers are looking great. I think we all get those times when the body pulls a mutany on us. Part of the evolution of training. At least thats how I look at it. A little down time and a big come back.
I can hardly wait to hear your results. Positive thoughts are coming your way! Work hard and reap your rewards.
Looking great DZ. Pumped to see how you do at the meet. At 206 you still have a lot of room you can grow in the 220 class.
Thanks guys! I think I may make another effort to get below 198 this winter. I most definately have enough body fat on me to drop in order to get there.

Thanks Jimmy! I really appreciate your comments. Things have been tough lately, it’s hard enough just to get into the gym. But I’ve been hitting my targets on my lifts with just 3 weeks of training left.

Nice benching DZ. You’ve got 275 in comp for sure - probably more.
Training is looking great… I concur with Skid, you got 275 no prob.
On a side note, I have been invited golfing with a bunch of buddies in Michigan (somewhere, they told me but I forgot) the weekend of the 13th. If it is near Grand Rapids I should drop by…

As master lifters we need to stay balanced.Working through all the problems of life daily and still training takes dedication. You are commited to your lifting and numbers show it.
DZ? I have a competition question since I am a just-out-of-the-jar newbie:
I was wondering about warmups before the 3 attempts? if there’s a lot of lifters in your flight, do you have to re-warm up between each attempt? That could make a guy pretty tired. Or does the timing work out such that it’s not usually necessary?
I was also wondering about the efficacy of using dynamic movements for warmup vs executing the lift as warmup. I’m assuming that the warmups work like attempts in that the weight is loaded on the bar and the lifters warm up with the weight loaded and drop out as the weight increases to at-or-above attempt weight.
It would take too much space to give each lifter his own warmup area…

Great questions Skid. This was a pretty small meet, about 40 lifters, and not everyone was doing the full meet. Lots of bench only guys. Each flight was about 12-14 people for squat and dead, bench was more, but things moved quickly enough I felt warmed up through the whole thing. But I was so buzzed on caffeine I was ready to go go go.
Many lifters, including the REALLY big guys were starting warmups with speed work, bar only, or 95-135 lbs. But for the most part we worked together as you described, using what was on the bar till you were done.
There were only 2-3 benchs, squat racks and dead platforms to warm up on. I was really paranoid about doing too much for warm ups. The only lift I warmed up to my opener was deadlift, because there was about a half hour between bench and deads.
Hope that answers your question. Oh BTW, another meet I watched with a lot more lifters, I don’t think anyone was running to the warmup area to stay loose.

What is special about these, DZ? I guess you do them for variation. And how close is close? I still don’t have GMs in my program, but seeing how they seem to be working for you has sure gotten my attention.

For me it takes a lot more back, as well as hams and glutes to get over to parallel. When I use a wide stance, I go really heavy, and frankly don’t get all the way down to parallel. And you’re right, it’s just a variation. I had a funny strain feeling in my back and didn’t want to put a whole lot of weight on it that day. The feet were about 6-8 inches apart.
I like to think GMs are doing me some good Geech. I haven’t had a bad back strain in a long time. That shit used to happen to me once or twice a year. And I once had a great big power lifter tell me GMs will make me wicked strong. That’s not exactly how he phrased it, but I’ll keep it clean.
