Excuse my supid question, but are you doing the floor presses with dumbbells?[/quote]
Not at all willy, that’s a good question. Perhaps if others ring in, I could learn a thing or two about them. I learned of them a long time ago, but could never rig up anything at home that would work.
So, now that I’m in the gym, I’ve set the safety bars of the squat rack to their lowest level, lay the oly bar across them, and squirm underneath. It sits so that my elbows are just touching the floor at the bottom. Each rep stops at the bottom with the elbows on the floor.
Heheh. I have to put cinder blocks down on the edges of the cage to catch the bar if I can’t push it back up.
Dumbbell floor presses have defeated me. I need to get a pair of those dumbbell hooks so I can hang the darn things off the bar. There is no easy way to get them into position without a training partner.
DZ-a few big powerlifters back in the day said training at 75 to 80% on your big lifts brings the big results.Looks from your training your right on track. As your train into your cycle your 75 and 80% increase.Hope you enjoy your summer ahead and I look forward to seeing some pics of you and the tire and Big Rock! Jimmy T
I find the front press while standing alot more difficult, but also more beneficial.
I can’t handle as much weight (strictly) as seated, but it is increasing my shoulder flexibility/ range of motion. Plus… you can use your legs for a litlle push to cheat and get a few extra reps in… and turn them into negatives on the way down.

Yea…I shoulda thought about that sooner. Anything done sitting down could be made a little more difficult by standing up. Thanks Bun-zilla Man.

Congrats on the PR DZ!
Is that progression the usual way you approach an attempt at a PR?
I’ve seen both you and Geech us the “Walk Out” notation, is that just to get used to the weight of the bar? Just shoulder it and step back away from the rack, hold and return?

Thanks soldog, and no, I had no intention of going that heavy today. My intent was to get several sets in over 300. WHen 355 felt pretty good, I decided to see if I could hit 385. A walkout is just that, to get a heavy load on the bar to feel it on your shoulders.
Thanks guys! I really do appreciate that. My curiosity got the best of me. I wasn’t going to try any new single rep max lifts for a while, and I wasn’t feeling particularly strong yesterday.
But if I was going to do another set beyond 355, instead of going to 375, why not throw on another 10 and see if I could get 385. Inspires me to work even harder to hit those lifts in the meet in Sept.
The rains and floods have stopped long enough to get the tire out, full of water as it is.
Tire Flipping
10 reps across the yard, 80 flips
120lb Stone Carries
5 reps across the yard
50 minute workout
Jimmy asked to see more pics of the tire flipping and stone carries, so, I asked the wife to get the camera out and get a couple vids. She’s going to post them on my profile in a few minutes. It’s a beautiful day here in Michigan. About 70 degrees, not too humid. We got shitloads of rain, like Wisconsin did, but our sandy soil soaks it up pretty quickly. Enjoy the vids, I had fun!
