Went to a birthday party for my niece last night in a city about 50 miles away. We’re about half way home around 11:00 PM driving 70 MPH on pretty empty Interstate and a SUV comes flying up an exit ramp coming at me head on. I braked and chose the right direction to swerve and we didn’t hit. We see his brake lights so we assume he figured out he was going the wrong way. We drive another mile or two and see headlight coming up behind us at 90+MPH, the same SUV swerves into the left lane just before he was going to rear end us. As he swerved, he almost lost it (was on the shoulder kicking up rocks) but kept going. Got the asshole’s license number and called 911 but didn’t see him dead in a ditch or pulled over before we got home.
If you’re drinking take a cab or stay where you’re at, you can fuck up too many other people’s lives if you drive.
Did you follow up to see that he got busted? That’s fuckin’ bullshit- I can’t imagine how pissed I’d be if I were in that situation. Twice. Let alone with the family.
I’m glad you guys are okay. Hopefully that piece of shit will rot when he gets himself killed.

Smokings on its way out. Don’t worry about that. And they haven’t banned trans fats, they just made the manufacturers display the amount on the package.
I called on a drunk driving woman at about 11 am on a Sunday morning. I was on the phone to dispatch as she and I passed the very police station I was talking to! I slowed and waved at the cruiser and he pulled out and yanked her over.
I heard later that she was indeed shitfaced. She had gone over the yellow line 4 or 5 times and into the dirt and actually hit some shrubs while I was calling it in.
ALWAYS call it in even when you are in doubt. If you’re wrong, they can go home. If you’re right and don’t call, someone may never make it home.
I can tell you a drunk driver is MUCH better off getting arrested and fined or seeing jail time than if he/she kills or injures one of my family or friends.
Sorry to hear about your experience with the DUMBASS driving drunk. Glad to hear y’all are OK. I hope someday, every car has a built in breathalizer that won’t allow the vehicle to start if you’re drunk. I also wish people wouldn’t drive when they’re too tired.

While I’m against drunk driving, I’m not for people telling me what I can eat, drink or smoke in the privacy of my own home (not that I smoke).
To the OP, I’m glad you made it okay. I had to deal with a few people screwing with (dialing I think) cell phones, but it certainly wasn’t as dangerous as the situation you described.

If you did that in Australia they’d be more likely to pull you over and fine you for using a mobile phone whilst driving.
Our cops seem to be more interested in making money by fining people than actually catching criminals.

I got one kid in my jail that killed his best friend in a DUI accident, he gets out in april. My son’s great uncle’s house was crashed into by a drunk, landed in the living room, right on aunt Nancy’s chair, thank god she was in bed.
One of my co-workers almost got hit head on coming back from shopping with his family, he chased the fucker down and helped get him arrested. I see assholes every FUCKING day that do not give a damn about you or your family. They aren’t drunk 'cause, they only “had a couple” just ask them and they’ll tell you.
My Point?
My point is you do need to vent, you need to vent to anyone who’ll listen. I don’t want to sound like some old lady but the toll is too damn high. And I’m tired of locking people up because they had “one more for the road” that and mostly they act like pricks when they’re drunk.

Its not like you to have such a black/white opinion vroom. Where are the shades of gray?
And you have to realize, the reason the government bans alot of these substances is because we ALL eat the food.
No one really cares that you like your artery clogging fats, because most of us really don’t care to eat that stuff. Majority rule vroom.
This is also a problem when the manufacturers of such product don’t inform on the packaging that the product does indeed contain this substance, so that those who like trans-fats may enjoy them, and those who don’t like it don’t eat it.
This is similar to why the government requires all water sanitation plants to thoroughly filter drinking water. The majority of people prefer clean water free of bacteria and contaminants.

Every car/truck/SUV etc sold in this country should have a Breathalizer and a device (that can’t be tampered with) to prevent the car from exceeding 80 mph.
There’s no goddamned reason why anyone should be allowed to drink and drive, or to drive like a goddamned speeding crackhead.

Consider: You spend a lifetime eating, drinking and smoking away. Fine, your choice. Your life expectancy will drop and health issues will be your main focus the last half years of your life. Your freedom to do as you wish will now impact your community by: burden of financing your trips to hospital and subsidizing your medication needs.
Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, various cancers… Yeah, vroom, you have a choice. The choice to be miserable leech by slowly killing yourself due to personal inadequacies (passive suicide) OR you can treat yourself with a modicum of respect, be healthy and live a happy life.
I’m tired of listening to people say “I’ll do what I want” instead of “I’m doing what’s right.”

But that’s true of most everyone. If you’re in bad health, you simply get your bad years at 50 rather than 80.

The problem is that what’s right for you is not necessarily right for everyone.
An argument could be made that bodybuilding and supplements are a waste; at a certain level of health, all that time and money could be better spent elsewhere. Five more pounds of muscle do not make you healthier; a bodyfat level of 11% is pretty indistinguishable from 12% in life expectancy terms.
That’s why we favor liberty and personal choice: So we can decide what’s right for each of us according to our aspirations and desires.
You can wish for “what’s right” to be imposed on us, but you better make sure your “right” is the majority opinion.
