California lawmakers approve drivers license for illegal immigrants.
“This bill will enable millions of people to get to work safely and legally,” Brown said in his statement, issued immediately after the Assembly vote. “Hopefully, it will send a message to Washington that immigration reform is long past due.”
How can you get to work legally, if you are not even legally able to work? Am I crazy?

Good, have the IRS use their “legal” license number to force them to pay taxes.

No, but they’ll likely need a federal tax ID number in order to get a license, which will result in the same thing.
The real reason for the push to license illegals immigrants, in my estimation, is to increase the Democrat voter roles. Immigrants almost invariably vote Democrat, and you have to prove California residency (not citizenship, notably) in order to vote. A driver’s license is proof of residency. It’s no surprise that great stacks of voter registration forms can be found at all California DMV offices.

Jerry Brown knows exactly what he’s doing.
Whatever, works for me.
I don’t follow I thought you don’t need an ID to vote?

Proving residency and voter photo ID are not the same. If you reside in Maryland, You couldn’t fly to New York and vote for Anthony Weiner because you don’t reside there.

You might not be “allowed” to, but I bet you I could.

Have you voted before? How did you know where to vote?
Yes
Well it’s in the local paper for one thing.
What I don’t understand is what was the big stink a few months/year ago about voter ID cards then? If people need an ID to get a voter registration card (which I believe you don’t) then they have a valid ID they could show at the polls. If it’s just a residency thing, I can live in MD, be illegal, and still vote.
I mean I’m pretty sure I went online to registered to vote. You just type your address I think.

Right, with only residency there is no strict link between vote and voter, only the vote and precinct are linked with the implied link to a voter. Voting is, effectively anonymous and a voter cannot be directly discriminated against, but this leaves plenty of room for fraud.
Tie the vote to the voter (through photo or in an otherwise more generally strict manner) and you cut down on fraud but are suddenly able to deal with voters directly and on a granular level. Additionally, you place a burden on the voters to provide the additional info for you to discriminate against them (in a positive or negative sense).
The Unions wanted these drivers licenses to look exactly the same as everyone else’s, which would allow them to vote, mainly for Union friendly candidates to secure more Union perks down the road.
Problem is, this violates the Real ID Act, and would be rendered illegal, so Brown signaled his disapproval. Then Unions got upset and wanted to pull the whole idea.
Driving is the cover story, the behind the scenes action was to expand Union voter roles.
Oh and discriminating against this specific license when applying for a job would make an employer open for a lawsuit, but it is illegal to work in the US while being here illegally.
I may be spitting into the wind here, but do you guys not have some sort of docket that lists all of the eligible voters at each voting station in your state? My Mom has worked the polls in Virginia since I was a kid and even then they had a list of people that could actually vote. You know, so people couldn’t just show up on election day at multiple stations and cast multiple votes.
You guys are acting like the ID is the only check in place to stop rampant voter fraud. But I’m not surprised, considering the attention that the boogie man that is voter fraud is receiving recently.
California has a roster at each polling station, that is checked to ensure you are on it. I am curious of how you chicken littles and tin foil hat wearers surmise that illegals would now be able to vote there with merely a drivers license that looks like a real id? Do they also use that to defraud the county elections office who has responsibility for adding them to that roster? Please enlighten me…

Let me guess…
A state that allows people to work and drive, who are not even allowed to be here, is going to check a docket for voter eligibility.
Right. Good luck with that.
You were better off juggling the Obama ball sack in your mouth.

This may be where my disconnect lies–I did not realize that proof of citizenship was not a prerequisite for voter REGISTRATION (understood it was not required for the actual vote). That’s pretty dumb…
But regardless, an ID that looks like existing ID’s wouldn’t make that process any easier, as some here seem to be claiming. If all the Federal Form requires is proof of residency, that can be accomplished by any number of means, including a standard ID. It makes no difference whether or not the fake drivers license “looks like” the real one or not, because they both prove residency. Not surprising.

Perhaps you could consider the following realities:
–With an “ID” or “alternative driver’s license” a non-citizen could claim residency and register to vote.
–There is no cross reference of voters’ registration with death certificates, so the dead are not promptly removed from the voting rolls. A person could show up with a faked ID and claim to be a (deceased, or moved, or non-voting) registered voter.
–Names might be held in common, or confused, as they are in California (similar patronymic-matronymic names)
–If you thing this is a fantasy, I know for a fact that my name was used to vote in Chicago for years after I had registered to vote in Massachusetts.

Yes, because people never fake standard ID’s.
LOL of course they do…which is why the non-fact that the new “fake” drivers licesnses look so much like the “real” ones is even more of a non-issue.

Was that enlightening for you?

Not really, since none of what you wrote is exacerbated by these new drivers licenses. Nothing was stopping an illegal from using an electric bill and registering to vote and pepetrating all the sins you listed before. My question was, as quoted above, how do you surmise that illegals would now be able to vote with merely a drivers license that looks like the existing one? Answer: it doesn’t change the status quo one bit. But that obviously will not stop the know nothings and conspiracy theorists from speculating…lol
