Yep. My mom said to me last summer: “Do you want your arms to look like that?” Now, I must say, I have rockin’ shoulders and arms for my size. I used to weigh next to nothing and have anorexic Vogue model arms. I’m proud of their definition now. Apparently, my mom doesn’t agree.

I think it’s hard for people who aren’t a part of ‘gym culture’ to appreciate muscle definition. I used to covet skinny arms, until I got serious about training. The funny thing is, many people will see muscle definition, and automatically think - oh, look how ‘big’ that arm is - even if it’s actually way smaller than their own flabby one.

My mom once said to me - “Oh my god, Rachelle, your arms look like a man’s arms!” I decided to take that as a compliment. :stuck_out_tongue:

thank you for the support, girls. moving forward, i will not lean toward being a sandy vag and wonder if i’m respectable enough to be hang around these parts.

sanp-thanks for the sumo vs conventional tip. especially the being screwed part…ha ha.

there are far too many people who don’t appreciate the gym culture and what it takes to get muscle definition for most women. i know i’m not alone when i have to stop my arm from rearing back to slap somebody silly when they tell me they just want to “tone up.”

really, it truly pisses me off the level of ignorance that abounds when it comes to the GP and ‘fitness,’ working out, toning up, “losing weight” etc. what can we expect when billions are spent for tv ads and products that promise such ridiculous claims. all we can do is try to educate one person at a time i 'spose.

i already said i’d kill for some lean ripped arms…it doesn’t sound like you girls are letting your folk’s opinions on such bother you-glad to hear that.

when my parents were still alive they were very supportive. my dad-because he always pushed for me to be a strong bad-ass girl cause i had no brothers. my mom was a tiny little thing and appreciated i was strong as a kid (picking her up was a favorite trick of mine)when i was 19 and just started lifting in the gym, she even went to lift with me once or twice to see where i was spending all my time and what i actually did in there

Also, about that cyst, can’t you just get that shiz removed? I got mine removed when I was 17 or so. I had it since I was 10 from a falling on the wrist playing soccer, and I remember that it was very painful at times.

small hijack So when I went to get the cycst removed, the doc basically took a syringe and sucked out the cycst juice which looked like a clear gel. As a brooding 17 yr old I asked the dr. what the gel was made of and he replied, sugar and water (or something like that). So of course, curious, I asked “can i taste it?”. The doc gave a chuckle and said sure. He squeezed some of it onto my finger and I ate it. Sure enough, that shit was sweet! Meanwhile, my mom who was in there with me was just staring in horror and you could see that she was thinking “what the fuck is wrong with my child”. Ahh…youth.

Oh and I just want to add, the cyct kind of came back - still have it now. But its much smaller and doesn’t hurt at all.[/quote]

so you are a dork-eating your cyst juice…gross! i don’t know for sure if that’s what it is because the dumb surgeon i went to simply said, yeah, looks like a ganglion cyst and said he could surgically remove it and it’s likely to come back. i’ve had wrist issues before the lump showed up (likely due to the 15 years i spent in grocery business)

it’s been better so i’m hoping it will only flare up now and then and i will deal with it as it comes. we’ll see about surgery. i was just going to ask about the needle and fluid removal, but i remembered what i’ve read about them. you have to go in and scrape the nerves out or they grow back. i think the fluid removal is only a temporary fix, no?

does it still give you pain? i feel pressure in it, so i ‘snap’ it-like you would crack your neck or pop a joint…ahhh-hurts so good…

still on my mountain high of snowboarding yesterday! the weather was soooooo perfect-an absolutely beautiful day. didn’t take my camera but my friend will send me the shots he took. i do want to post one i snapped out of the gondola on the way down. you can barely see Lake Tahoe in the back, near the top of the pic.

i’ve almost got this boarding down. i only fell a few times…tailbone to be bruised for quite some time so good thing i will be shifting to that other program. hopefully nothing in there to aggravate it more. i’m actually sad to see winter go now that i’ve got this sport-i’m kinda obsessed with it. or obsessed with getting good at it, i should say. ahh, november will be here soon enough. i’ll enjoy the summer thanks very much.

one last post…so my work is never really going to slow down this year. this week should be the last of the 12+ hour days for a while. i will start Metabolic surge next week, day depending on scheduling those 2 nutrient isolation days on work days, not my day off. too hard to stick with one day of only fruits and one day of only protein if i’m not busy stuck at work. and Flo should be here any day and i don’t want her bitch ass interfering with my mo-jo starting a new program.

glad you are interested in the program. i better take some starting measurements. i won’t bother mentioning the up-down of the silly scale i’ve been seeing. best estimate is i’m at 150. i want to be around 143 all the time. ultimate goal is to be under 140, 138??? not focused on a number, it’s the leanness i’m looking for so you can see mah mus-kels!!!

god i hear an echo…

That is an awesome shot of the snowy moutains and the lake. I LOVE Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe is the coolest.

I was there last week with my significant other, just to hang out and relax. The view from our cabin was trees, snow, sand and lake.

couldn’t’ve been any better.

Oh, BTW…Thread Hijack!

Just stopped in to say Hi Talena!

Hee hee, Edgy.

And I’m gross?! That’s just sick and wrong T!

Yeah, the bitch still hurts every now and then but its tolerable. You’re right, it never does go away fully when you get it sucked out, so surgery is generally the best option if you want it gone for good.

Great Gondola shot! I’m glad to hear you took to snowboarding - maybe you can surf in the summer?

Oh shoot! Didn’t realize the metabolic surge had special nutrient days…iiiiinteresting.

yes, maam miss bear…note to self no posting of random thoughts in pms mode.

kimba-you sure have traveled around!

Edgy-if i have to tell you one more time you aren’t hijacking if you stop in…
(yes-Tahoe is amazing-glad you made it up to have some fun. the view sounds perfect!)

Maschy-same thing with my wrist-it rears up and is very painful but most of the time is just an annoyance. we’ll see what hapens. re metabolic surge, after 5 days low carb there are 2 “nutrient isolation” days. then 5 low fat. you’ll read about it soon enough…

step up stuff and some hypers
waaay crowded gym for arriving just after 8…boooo! waiting for rack so i did some leg warm-ups of:
**edit WG lat pull-downs: 3 x 10 @ 90

super set of: 10 seated leg extensions @ 100
w/ 10 seated curls @ 100
repeat for 3 supersets

straight leg DL, heels raised: 3 x 10 w 80 BB

DL: 10 X 135
6 x155
6 x155
6 x155
9 x135
thanks snap, yep, i’m pulling sumo…

followed by the circuit i tried to remember what Betty did, only bar:
10 atg squats
10 bent over raises
10 MP
short rest of about a min, repeat 2 x
bent over DB rows, only pulled 10 with 45’s each arm. out of time.
not bad considering i have cramps and back ache from you know who…

since i have yet to post a DL video (coming soon, btw) i will post the only “action” photo i have…another boarding pic. i’m sooooo in love with this sport…i’m so wishing i was up there because it’s dumping snow this week…

you get pretty hot on those sunny days…t-shirt is a must for me. there were people boarding in shorts only (not that hot-they are just hard core and good enough to not fall and get snow rash) and a few hotties in st pauli girl type outfits. sorry i can’t shut about this…lifting videos coming soon, i promise…

Nice to ‘see,’ you! Looks like fun there!

And good training!! But I remember you did 155x6 for DL’s last time…increase the weight NEXT TIME!!! Was that your first time trying sumo?

And your the second person thats referenced my made up circuit thingy! yay me…

MIM- i have been pulling sumo but didn’t realize i was til snapper clarified the hand grip. i’m just barely sumo, definitely wide stance feels natural. also-i will refer to your circuit as the MIM circuit. (even though i think i’m missing a set of something…i just thought of you & that circuit and threw it in)

and i didn’t mention that wednesday night’s DLs were good. no mind fuck games going on. last time i pulled several sets of 10 @ 135 and only one set of 6 @ 155. i liked 3 for 6x155

12.5 hours of work, not much time left to work out. i threw this together on the fly, about 50 min total, kept rest periods short:

step up warm up stuff, 20 DBs then dropped to 15’s. about 8 min of that, 25 hypers, 15 tricep bench dips

flat DB press: 25’s x10
35’s x8, 8, 8, 7<<<<damn, i’ve gotten weak here, haven’t been doing these…

incline DB press: 25’s x10,10,10

superset of skull crushers and narrow grip press: 30 BB 15 of each, repeat for 2 supsets

attempted some hanging C&P: think my upper is still fatigued from the DLs:
only 6 @ 65, pulled the plates of to immediately do 10 OHP w bar.

1 MIM cicuit (atg squat, b-o row, OHP, 10 each)

tricep push-downs with funny bar (handles on end, flex them tri’s out at the bottom of press)
60 x 12 x3

3 supersets of: standing BB curl and tricep push-downs (straight bar for both)
40 x15

arnold press: 17.5’s 10, 10
no rest to front raises 12.5’s x 10 and lat raises x 10

20 hypers
ran up and down the stairs with 2 25 plates for 3 trips (think it’s 32 steps total)

hard to find time to post in everyone’s logs with these long hours-my apologies if it seems i’m only concerned with myself i haven’t even eaten since lunch and now i figure why bother, just go to bed. i wanted to juice tonight…might still do that.

The MIM circuit, haha!

Actually the last time I did it, it was this:

upright row
MP
front squat
row
and then either RDL or
good morning

for an extra challenge, try adding some weight, and drop some of the reps, like 4x6 or 5x5

T, you selfish beyatch, great training

LOVE the MiM circuit - I’ve been doing it too. And 35 on the DB press ain’t weak to me!

As for the DLs, I’m glad they felt good! I also find Sumo more natural.

Nice training, especially after another hellish long day at work! Love the cute boarding pic, too.

what she said - and Hi of course

i know my schedule isnt nearly as bad as yours, but

i had an 8&1/2 hour day tonight, it was still light out when i left work, and it was weird. thought of you and ur crazy long days.

meh-12 hours is hardly hellish anymore. it’s pretty normal. the 14 i pulled on saturday should have felt hellish but it surprisingly didn’t. i’m supposed to work 4 10’s. but that isn’t happening. working extra days too-but i’m maintaining the stress level pretty well. snowboarding helped with that. aaannnd, now i have a bike to ride. nothing fancy-a cross between a mountain and cruiser, i guess. that will really help with the dumb work as long as i get out when the sun is still shining for at least 30-45 min.

started the program today. YAY! 5 days low carb eating paired with “fat loss circuit training.” today and tomorrow will be 6 sets of 6-8 reps. your rest period is 40 seconds of cardio. a couple of the exercises call for 4 or 5 sets.

for my cardio rest period, i chose jump roping…(love it) wrap up with “core combo,” which is lower back, abs and rotator cuff work. i slouched on the ab work because my tail bone is too bruised to sit on a bench and do v-ups, or lie on a decline bench to do sit ups. so i did some hanging leg raises. will figure out some alternative ab work. but i absolutely hate working abs.

bent-over DB rows: 6 x8 45’s

flat bench DB press: 6 x8 25’s

standing BB curls: 4 x8 40 <<<no cheating, i did near perfect form. which was pretty damn hard by this point. arms slightly fatigued from jump roping by now.

seated horizontal calf: 4 x 14 170 lbs (skipped the last jump rope before last set cause i was going to lose the equipment if i left it again) program calls for standing calf raises but i don’t have one of those. yes, i’m aware i could improvise with holding weights and standing but this fit better.

did the core combo. and jumped rope for 3 more minutes. all this and a couple min of stretching done in ONE HOUR! awesomeness.

just finished a 40 min bike ride. first 15 included some serious hills. one was so steep i stopped mid-way cause i didn’t want to come back down it…skeered to go so fast. the rest of the ride was cruising. i feel fantabulous and am hoping i can stay on track with the program without work interfering.

gotta go finish catching up on journals…

You can try standing calf raises on a step in the smith. Yes, I knew there was something that a smith was good for!

I love the uphill on a bike but freak out on the downhills. Fear of being out of control?
