Since you mentioned heart rate:
Heart rate monitoring is nothing more than a tool to be used during cardiovascular conditioning. If heart rate was most important, then I could scare one into CV condition. We know this is not true. A contracted muscle will limit blood perfusion, and has significant effect on cardiovascular conditioning, because increased concentration of metabolic by-products will accumulate. Thus, the heart has to work harder as systemic blood vessel resistance increases. The lack of oxygen in the capillaries of the working muscles will fire baroreceptors and chemoreceptors to signal the heart to pump more oxygen to the muscles. The subsequent increase in heart rate does not get more oxygen into the muscles, as the muscle contraction itself restricts blood perfusion. As the heart rate increases and more blood is pumped faster into systemic circulation, the left ventricle must contract harder.
Ask about static contractions, and a rapid rhythmical relaxation of cardio,

Yes. It doesn’t help that HiT over the years has taken a position of being diametrically opposed to any and all legitimate cardiovascular conditioning methods. The latest uninformed viewpoint is Global Metabolic Conditioning. Similar to all falsehoods, this revelation depends on stacking pyruvate up for mitochondria., which is only a small part of the cardiovascular conditioning. The truth is no one uses resistance exercise for cardiovascular conditioning as an efficient methodology. Cardiovascular conditioning is most important. Even Arthur thought anyone could get benefits to be had from around 6 months of resistance training. After that period of time, why train much more. The truth is , cardiovascular conditioning is an effective means to lose body fat, because training can be of long durations. This is why HiT is dying. Superfluous muscle is not needed nor desired in a computer driven, machine dominated world of today.
It gets worse for HiT. Oh what could. have been!
We should talk further, sometime.
There are 3 energy pathways which all 3 work constantly. The alactic system powers muscles for about 10 seconds or less. This is why power lifters wait around 5 minutes between sets. Also, this is why 100 meter sprinters are slowing in the last few meters. This is jet fuel! This is an anaerobic system.
Next is the anaerobic lactic acid cycle. HYdrogen ions are produced after prolonged usage and cause an unfavorable environment for muscle recruitment. Thus, pushing sets into this system can be counterproductive to training muscles. Push gently.
The granddaddy of the energy systems is the aerobic system. This system powers the others to their full complement of energy.
Cardiovascular conditioning trains the body to build more and better mitochondria. Cardiovascular conditioning keeps pyruvate from stacking up in the cytoplasm of the cell. Doug forgot about fast twitch fibers, along with mitochondria. Mitochondria density and volume easily keep pyruvate concentration in check. Nature rules Doug! Don’t believe me , do a heavy set of leg presses, then Sit down and and wait 2 minutes as the HR goes up along with increased respirations. The Kreb’s cycle kicks in , and needs oxygen to replace ATP and to perfuse Oxygen to the tissues.
The energy systems are complex and require more than a simplistic explanation such as Global Metabolic Conditioning ! Study up!
Learn these energy systems and certain HiT claims that cardio doesn’t exist seem like foolishness.
