What a joke.

You can’t turn Dragonball into a real live human movie…It’s just too crazy. Like how could you equal the intensity of the battle scenes and all the crazy power shit they do on film?
You cant.
Plus Goku looks stupid.
But I heard about this movie and saw the preview a long time ago, so it doesn’t burn so bad anymore.
They could pull it off, remember the last fight seen in the matrix trilogy. The first time I saw it I thought, “this is Goku and Vegita”. It would be a shit load of cgi but it would still be way better than this sci-fi channel budget movie they are trying to pass off as Dragonball.
I’m probably the only one in here that will actually go see it. I’m just curious about it. Like a bug to the light.
Wait, is this based on the cartoon about a kid with a tail who could fly around on a magic cloud who apparently had super strength but every time a fight would break out, it would take 10 minutes for any action to happen because we had to get set for a commercial break so that one slap is stretched out to half the length of the entire show?
The one where he later got older and now his hair would catch on fire when he powered up but due to the fact that this was made overseas, the facial expressions and comments were so off the mark that I changed the channel due to “dialogue lag time”?
I swear, Go Speed racer had better dialogue than DBZ.
I’m mostly just joking with y’all but I never really got that show. It was always on the same level as Pokemon to me…just another show that came on after Power Rangers started to fall off.
That trailer looks about worthy of the subject matter.

BLASPHEMY!!!
Yes the American dub was horrible and you lost alot of the seriousness of the subject matter. True fans of the series knows the Japanese original was way more adult in its subject matter and wasn’t AS trivial as the American version made the story out to be. Like all great series it over stayed its welcome near the end, but it personally inspired me to work out and get stronger. (Im still working on the glowing hair and flight)
This “movie” is a direct slap in the face to all who are fans. How would you feel if the Transformers movie was scaled down to a movie about a bunch of talking go karts who fight against household appliances who are trying to take over an amusement park? Would you think that was worthy subject matter? Lets face it the original Transformers series had two good seasons tops. After that it went to hell in a handbasket.
I am saying this with all the respect in the world because I hear you are the dude in the Office Linebacker commercials and I like not breathing through tubes.
Goku’s a white high school kid.
Kill it with fire, bury it, dig it up, desecrate the body, burn it again, bury it again, piss on the grave.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

fuck. I just hope they don’t make a sequel to it. It’s ok that they’ve made a travesty of DragonBall, but as long as they don’t continue on to ruin DragonBall Z, I’ll be happy.
LOL…so much for that…
Lol the american dubbed/edited anime series was so bad… No swearing, Roshi with no libido…
This movie is moronic and is upseting to the real dbz fans.
PS. Picalo looks like a moron.

See, apparently I am not the only one who thought the dubbed version sucked ass. For me it was unwatchable.
I do understand the point about Transformers, but the basic concept just seemed to work better…and the animated movie kicked ass back then as well. DBZ never had success in that form (movies) so I am not surprised by this.
I thought the pain had gone down since the first time I saw that trailer, but everytime I see it now I just cringe inside, its like DBZ character names to a COMPLETELY F’ed up storyline. I don’t EVER recall Goku being 18 years old and SCARED of a fight, WTF have they done to one of my alltime favorite series?!
If they attempt to make another one, we need to start some kind of violent protest. You guys take out goku and the rest of the cheesy cast, and ill take care of Emmy Rossum (Bulma)… shes been naughty and needs proper spankin…
BTW you guys let me know if you want some carebear autographs. i worked with one of the people who does the majority of the voices lmao. Funny thing is, she actually sounds like a carebear normally… I’ll get those fedex’d right away!

I see what your saying, I got put on to DBZ before it came to the states and got ass raped by the Voice Over artists. If the US version was my first exposure to it I might have not been as big a fan as I am now.
FYI DBZ has about 13 full length movies, about a billion video game titles, and is dubbed and syndicated in about every country and language known to man. It also cures rectal cancer and single handedly won the french and indian war.
The last two facts might be rumors.

Oh boy you’re about to drop a couple pegs on the respect-o-meter…
EDIT : Agree on the sucking of the enlish dub though… The japanese was much better. But I think that’s the truth with any anime coming from Japan.
See, I never had to watch any dubbed, edited, Americanized (which is to say, bastardized) version of Dragon Ball Z. I saw 'em right on Japanese TV, and read the new episodes in Shonen Jump as soon as the ink was dry.
I arrived in Japan in 1989, shortly after the arrival of Raditz, and was enthralled. I quickly located all of the original comic books (featuring fantastic vignettes that likely never made it to States, such as the boy Goku taking off Bulma’s panties as she slept to check whether she has balls, then later Bulma, unaware that she’s going commando, agreeing to flash her “panties”–twice–at Kame Sennin (whom you all know as “Master Roshi” for some odd reason), giving the poor old lecher a nosebleed each time), and read them from start to finish.
So yes, Dragon Ball holds a dear place in my heart.
This movie is a travesty, plain and simple. Couldn’t they have found anyone but a fucking weak-looking white American douchebag to play Goku?
Somebody like Kane Kosugi? Who actually looks the part, and is a good martial artist? Maybe?

On the subject of using “wholesome American white actors” to stand in for characters that are clearly NOT white in previous media, this has bothered me long before now. I assume it is because they simply don’t feel that American audiences can relate to a “foreign” lead character and maybe being white means more money in the bank.
Things like this are the soul reason that movies like The Grudge were remade with a white leading actress instead if the Japanese original cast or someone Asian who can speak English.
I am not saying race should be the primary factor either. If the actor can do the job and make the character better, then I am all for it.
When it came to casting MCD as King Pin in Daredevil, that simply made sense because who else in Hollywood that can act to any degree at all actually fit those dimensions without being a fat slob or wearing a prosthetic suit? I actually think it worked better and was the only character in the whole movie that I liked.
However, when it comes to many of these Asian media concepts…like The Last Airbender (which is actually made here I believe)…I expect for them to at least realize that their ethnicity is actually part of the story and feel of the world those characters live in.
Clearly, the American version of DBZ was lacking a great deal because there was never any sexual implications or even a decent story that kept my attention. I was aware that these characters were big on the other side of the world, but I just couldn’t get into these versions. They sucked.
