Dr. Darden Picture?

Darden

Jones

Jones again

He’s got that “old high school gym teacher” look, agreed?

Nah, you saved that for your other posts in the thread. You’re all class, bud, really.

Dr. Darden looks damn good for 63, if you ask me.

Darden:

I would welcome anyone to go meet Arthur Jones and talk shit to his face. I had the oppurtunity to visit Jones three years ago in Florida and it was pretty fucking awesome. At 80+ years of age I still got the feeling that he is a complete badass. Also, one of the most intelligent men I have ever met, and one of the funniest.

well…i think Arnold has one of the most inspirational physiques ever. some of the other guys of his era as well: franco, reg park, ken waller (wahler? spelling?), etc. these guys had some dense looking physiques, the kind of physique that i dream of having. but lets get something straight, its not fair to anyone involved to compare Ell Darden to Arnold. im going to go out on a limb here and say that Darden probably did not use the drugs that these guys used…however “low” and “mild” the dosages may be compared to todays pro-BB standards.

btw–not to hi-jack, but http://www.classicbodybuilders.com/
has a really nice collection of “golden era” BB’s photos. inspirational to me…some are slightly risk-ay though…

sometimes stupid things just come out of peoples mouths. ohhhhh poor MikeShank. truly one of the worst displays ive seen on T-Nation to date. some old DeezWeez posts come to mind, but at least they were hilarious at the same time.

Yo, Shank. The man is 62 years old and looks great.

I’m sure at that age you’ll either have a big old man beer belly or the muscle mass of Fred Astaire at age 85.

What a douchebag.

he’s 62?? Shit I didn’t know he was 62… he looks 42.

but the first thing I thought of when I saw your picture was that you were sick.

What gives?

Also I think it’s pretty disrespectful, especially when he’s given up his time, specifically to help people on this site… He looks damn good for 62, and I bet he’s still damn strong for that age and certainly athletic.

Are you telling me that hypertrophy is all thats going to matter to you when your 63? It’s ok when you’re 23 but peoples lives change, grandkids, families…

I’d much rather be fit, strong and healthy like ellington than dead at 40… or at deaths door at 62.

I think he still looks damn good. I never would have guessed that he was sixty three.

I’m not a fan of HIT or Dr. Darden, but I never questioned his physique (he looks pretty healthy for his age in the pic) as an indicator of his knowledge or experience.

If so, you’d have to question many others whose physique may not back up their athletic ability or knowledge (Charles Staley comes to mind - great guy, highly intelligent, but not big and muscular as some would perceive him to be for his line of work).

I can understand where you might think he looked sick from his pale skin (as he already mentioned, he has had more than 60 moles/tags removed for skin cancer). But I don’t think he looks bad. He’s not fat or out of shape. He may not be HYOOGE, but priorities change over time. And that pic of him in his day looked great!

Everyone’s long-term goal should be overall health and fitness. I think Dr. Darden shows that he’s been able to do that.

As for the article, I may not agree with the methods, but I can always absorb what is useful and throw out what is not.

Well I think you cant judge a book by its cover. However for people to criticize someone else because they think mike shank is wrong? Grow up.

You can let people have their opinions without cutting them down. I think Ellington has his knowledge but to say he looks 42? Come on. My dad is 64 and looks alot younger than him, so thats alot of bull or you just dont know what you are talking about.

I appreciate the insight that Dr.Darden has to give this site, thanks!

Have you even read this thread?

Why don’t you post a pic of your Dick Clark-looking pops and we can all chime in with, “He looks sick!” and “He looks like Yoda” and see how long it takes you to retaliate.

Dr. Darden looks good, fit and healthy and younger than his years. I wouldn’t change a thing.

I am glad to see that you hold this guy to another standard than you hold all other gurus to.
If he is so respectable then why does he do those b.s. bowflex commercials.

go buy 6 of his books and tell me what the first thing you notice.
outside of the number of pictures of guys he has never trained, you will notice that all the books are remarkably the same.

Ask him about his days of training in mud. Did that build his Mr. America body?
Arthur jones can be a chain smoking slob and yet you all give him a free pass? He has other things going on in his life…international businesses?

Build bigger arms in a couple of weeks? For christ sakes, if anybody else printed an article like that you guys would scream for a lynching.
I also guess you can take that picture of arnold and shove it up your butt being he gets free pass since he has “other” things going on. He only runs the worlds 5th largest economy.

Arthur jones is looking jacked under a t-shirt next to a baby elephant and everything he says is law? He magically beat up arnold according to this guy?[/quote]

Dr. Darden received a fair share of criticism and questioning following his first article here. In case you missed it:

That was based on the merits of HIT, not someone else’s notion of how a 60-yr old lifter should look or an outside presumption and preconceived notion of what Darden’s own physique goals are or should be.

There is only one criterium to judge a coach: his results.

Comments on looks, sexual preference and other personal remarks serve but one purpose: talking someone down to try and cover up his results in favour of someone else’s. Don’t care if you like or dislike him, respect knowledge and how it might help you.

I was just thinking about the 1st interview (posted 3/15/06) Chris did with Dr. Darden. In that interview, Dr. Darden talked about a seminar he did with Arnold in 1977. Arnold promoted high volume training as the best method to reach your muscular potential while Dr. Darden spoke of high intensity training as being a more efficient method. Arnold asked the audience “who are you going to believe”…“him” as he pointed at Dr. Darden and laughed…“or me” and then flexed his arms.

As Dr. Darden noted in the interview, most people respond to how you look more than what they say.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how people would respond if Arnold and Dr. Darden did a seminar together some 29 years later? Who would “look” more believable?

I tend to think the majority would have a more open mind to Dr. Darden’s ideas based on how they both currently look. If this seminar was to happen, Dr. Darden could point at Arnold (based on the previous posted photo on this thread)and laugh but I doubt he would do that as he has something called CLASS and RESPECT.
