Dr. Buteyko

Wow. The D really gets around-

Alot of successful people tell me they owe it to starting breathing exercises learned from chinese or brazillian cultures. When I meditate or focus on deep breathing personally I find my thoughts are clearer. As you guys know sometimes my thoughts make no sense through my posts on here ahaha.

The OP did not phrase this right.

It is more about exhaling slower, than it is about breathing less.

I don’t think so, can you explain?

THE OXYGEN PARADOX

"In 1871 Doctor Da Costa discovered the “Hyperventilation Syndrome” whereby deep breathing in a relaxed state caused dizziness and sometimes fainting. This has in the past often been incorrectly attributed to oxygen saturation. According to the Verigo-Bohr effect, it is the ratio of carbon dioxide to oxygen which permits the release or retention of oxygen from the blood.

At the end of the last century Russian physiologist Verigo and Dutch scientist Bohr independently discovered that, without carbon dioxide, oxygen is bound to the hemoglobin of the blood and simply does not work. This leads to oxygen deficiency in the tissues of the brain, heart, kidneys and other organs and a raising of blood pressure. SO, strange as it may seem, oxygen deficiency is not caused by lack of oxygen but by the lack of carbon dioxide! If we breathe too much we get less oxygen."

This is from the Buteyko Theory, I am not saying I believe it or not.

Ok, and where’s the part that explains why “it is more about exhaling slower, than it is about breathing less”?

So, there’s a quick self test which is supposed to tell you the level of oxygenation in your cells. Here’s the description: Measure CP : A DIY Test Measuring Body Oxygen Levels in 1 Min
I have like 13 seconds after waking up in the morning, which is really bad. According to Dr. Buteyko you should have 60 seconds for perfect health. So, I would like to see how many seconds you get, but don’t cheat;)
