Don't Work Hard but Change Your Life! Modern Gyms...

I work in a gym here in London, one that has a history of bodybuilders and powerlifters from back in the day. The gym has just come back to London in the past couple of years, and the new owners are terrified of that old imagee. So today while doing day 5 of the I, Bodybuilder program I was doing Sumo Deadlifts. Most people nkow that it’s hard to dl quitely, but I actually got in trouble for making noise with my lifts. I just think it’s rediculous that they say thet want people to change their lives and such but don’t want them to work hard. I know a warehouse gym would be better for my own workouts but it doesn’t make sense with me working here. We do have a room where we can make noise but it’s seperate and has limited equiptment, so it’s a pain when super/monster setting. Anyways, just my piece. Anyone else have similar issues with current gyms?

At my gym, even though it’s huge, there’s almost no space to deadlift with out people rubbing my bum as they walk by.

I used to get crap for deadlifting in the college gym. Then I had to deadlift off these solid stretching mats. Then they got rid of the mats.

Now, I deadlift loud and get chalk all over the place and nobody can say anything. I’m conscientious enough to clean up the chalk if I make a really big mess though.

As a side note, at least five other guys have started deadlifting in there regularly. I like to think that by providing an above average example of studliness, fearlessness, and effort in picking up something heavy off the ground, that the masses have started to follow my lead.

They probably were doing them anyway though but I never paid any attention.

Get a new gym.

I don’t have any issues and I work out and a chain/commercial gym.

I haven’t had to go to a commercial gym yet, but I would think that the deadlift and noise questions would come up during the tour or at least before signing the contract.

Well it’s the gym I work at unfortunately. If I worked in a more central location I could find somewhere to work out at but unfortunately there’s nothing close. Apparently i the owners or GM (especially him) freak out if they hear weights banging.

It’s a pain but something I have to deal with, just curious how common it was. I used to work for the biggest gym chain in Canada who are known for being main stream and even they didn’t care, as long as it wasn’t obnoxious dropping of weights, which I get.
