Don't Underestimate the Little Guy

Looks like we’ve got some genuing 170 lb badasses here. Prof X’s world must be turned upside-down.

Uh, yeah.

290lbs at 10% body fat.

Right.

And he would waste the time to worry about wrestling some 170lbs gym waif.

Yeah.

Just when I think the lamest post to ever hit the internet has been written…

LOL! Ninjas running around pulling 500 and slaying everyone in site.

No one believes this bullshit.
Wiggum88 wrote:
What’s up T-Nation. I wanted to share a story with you all that happened over this past weekend that made me feel good and perhaps a few of you guys too. This Saturday the gym was pretty empty as usual (all the guidos go partying on the weekend). It was pretty much just my buddy and I doing some deadlifts. Well there we are doing our thing and this huge guy, I’d say about 275-290lbs. @ 6 foot (I’d say 10-15% BF), and his less large but equally as tan as a carrot buddy are doing BB Curls right next to us. No biggie, that’s a normal thing. Well my buddy “Ray” who is about all of 170lbs. throws 500lbs on the bar and pulls it easily (I pull it too, but just barely and I outweigh him by a good 25lbs!). This huge guy looks at the bar and asks if he can give it a go. We say sure, and he procedes to put straps on. Ok, we NEVER use straps but whatever. He ends up missing it anyway (didn’t even get it off the ground). My buddy and I look at each other, and then we hear a disparaging remark coming under this guy’s breath. Now I let it go but my boy “Ray” is a bit of a hot head (can’t blame him, he grew up in Newark) and procedes to grill this guy. “Just cause you got weak fucking girl hands don’t blame us!” comes out of his mouth. The big dude rises up and it looks like all hell is gonna break loose. Well I manage to calm them both down and we decided to settle the fued over a tap out fight on the mats in the track (It’s an indoor track). The big dude agrees ,confident in his ability to make my buddy into a pretzel. Well it started off good for the big dude, it looked like he was gonna make Ray eat his words. Then 20 seconds into the fight, his ATP-CP system failed him miserably and another 20 seconds later “Ray” put this guy’s arm into one of the nastiest looking key locks I have ever seen. You should have seen the look on the big dudes buddy’s face, I thought he saw a ghost or something, his orange face turned white. The big dude let out a yelp like a stuck pig and “Ray” let him go. That was that. His buddy and him slunk out the gym door. I haven’t seen him around the gym the last two days. And he is ALWAYS in there when I go. One more thing that I forgot to mention, “Ray” has won a state title in wrestling, practices gymnastics, and wrestled for the Marine Corps. His entirely training consists of Kettlebells, gymnastics, and sled pulling. The ONLY weight exercises he does are Deads and Squats (and even that is rarely). Don’t underestimate the little guy.
This sounds like it could be one of those letters sent in to PENTHOUSE… If PENTHOUSE published openly gay articles :-/

Yeah, I thought that was more civil than taking a quarter plate and breaking the fucker’s jaw. Did I mention that the gym also has a martial arts dojo? MMA guys train there all the time. Ground fighting and grappling are a regular occurance. I know it’s probably not the spandex-wearing, tanning bed having, plate loaded machine infested globo-gym conglomerate that your used to working out at, but I enjoy going there.

Oh, yeah. That’s me. You’d make it 2 mintues in a workout with me. Count on that.

Unless you’ve been to SERE’s school like I have, I highly doubt it.

First off, I don’t believe your post. It sounds like highschool fantasy bullshit to me. I don’t think that everyone ‘does MMA’ as they boast, and I think it’s possible that your friend does not even exist. He sounds like an imagined idea of what YOU would like to be. Either that or you have some unrequited man-love thing going on here.

Second, if this guy was really 290 and 10% BF and could not deadlift that weight then he’s either got a dislocated back or…again…the story is made up. I think the latter.

Third, I don’t know what the Sere school is and I most certainly have not been there. But after four years in an NCAA Division One Strength and Conditioning program, three years in NFL offseason and in-season programs, and 10-plus years training as international level olympic lifter and national level (raw) powerlifter, I think it’s safe to say my workouts are still - even at the ripe age of 37 - fairly intense.

I like to hear kids like you say that you could match my - or anyone elses - workout, just not with the same weights. Well, the heavy weights are what make you puke. For instance, last night - in my version of the full-body program - I supersetted full/olympic back squats (i.e. SQUATS - these are what fucking squats ARE, by the way) and dumbbell bench presses.

Two work sets each, 12 reps, static weight. Simple enough, right? Easy. Yeah. I had the bar loaded to 415 for the back squats and used 125-pounders (not hard- just the most I can get on my DBs) for the bench presses.

Followed that up with a superset of barbell rows with 330 for 2 sets of 12 and seated DB military presses with 100-pounders (2 x 12, also). Whole workout took 50 minutes. Try that one some time.

Hack,
How about posting some pics from WL comps. I get a kick of how totally non weight trained “buddies” on this site can squat 500 lbs etc. 300 maybe, if the person were involved in a manual labor job. But 500… I haven’t seen that too often in any gym in 25+ years

It would be better for some of these morons to see what 400 lbs overhead looks like.

I’m sure I’ll get ripped for posting a pic (someone will point out something about upper calf proportionality or some shit), but you’re right. I’ll do it. My wife took a rear shot of me jerking 180 kg. a few years back that’s cool. I’ll see if I can find it. Maybe I’ll get her to snap a shot of my next front squat workout as well.

That sounds Cool, Bro. I’m sure you’re a massive MF’r I’d like to see those as well.

Yes, this story really happened. I know all the big guys who posted on this thread would like to believe that being heavier and lifting heavy weights makes you a better fighter, but that’s bullshit.

Like I said, my buddy was an accomplished wrestler in high school and wrestled for the Marines. That’s no small feat. Wrestlers are pound for pound the strongest athletes in the world. (Except for maybe gymnasts). He was a highly trained athlete.

The big steroid infused, overly tanned douche bag had big muscles…yes. Too bad he had the fitness level of a 90 year old lady. He got caught talking shit and got his ass kicked. Speed, skill and aggressiveness will top strength any day of the week.

Never heard of SERE’s school? Ok, let me tell you about the indoc I had to go through with my recon unit just to qualify to go.

20 pullups with 40lb radio pack.

4 mile run with 60lb ruck, boots, utes, M16. Must be completed in 40 minutes.

Another 15 pullups with 40lb radio pack.

Swim 5000 meters with full gear, (I forget the time)

And once all this was finished you had to run a PFT and get at least a 275 score.

This was just the indoc with MY UNIT! I had to go through another one once I got to Texas. Then another at the school in Washington.

Fuck your weights. OH WOW! 400lb. squats. Try having to evade capture when you haven’t eaten in 3 days, it’s 10 degrees out, and it feels like your guts are gonna spill out because you’ve been moving non-stop for 48 hrs.

I don’t understand why people come to a site dedicated to weightlifting and then try to put it down.

I’m not putting down weightlifting. I love it. Its great. It just annoys me when people post numbers on their lifts and expect respect and oohh’s and aahhh’s. I certainly appreciate the level of effort and dedication that it takes to accomplish some of those lifts, but your not going to get my admiration. Somebody like Dan Gable, Michael Johnson, or a Medal of Honor winner is going to get my respect alot sooner than some freak like Dorian Yates.

I respect all those guys for their accomplishments in their field.

You seem to be taking a sour grapes attitude about strength training. You want to belittle the accomplishments of others in the strength training field.

I could belitlle Michael Johnson because Dan Gable would kick his ass or belittle Dan Gamble because Michael Johnson could easily out run him but what is the point?

You could not do Hack’s workout, nor could Hack make it through SERE school.

You are full of shit. All things considered, it is obvious that being bigger(on the whole) makes you a better fighters…or there wouldn’t be weight classes.

Basically you said:

Big guy doing curls next to us wanted to try our deadlift

Couldn’t lift it

Got pissed

Then proceeded to fight your buddy?

Who then whooped his big, overly muscled ass?

Do you see any problems with your story?
