Don't Diet

First, let me explain that I’m a recreational powerlifter who’s just looking to lose some (okay, a lot) of the fat I’ve put on over the last year or so (about 50pounds). So I’m not hardcore like a lot of you guys, just looking to get my stomach flat again.
I came across all the articles here on the “massive eating/dont’ diet” diet, and sounded like a fairly easy method. Incidentally, I’ve probably done EVERY diet in the past (CKD, warrior, low fat, etc) and they all worked. But all seemed to be based on deprevation. The ME/DD seems to allow you pretty much any type of decent food, just in a certain way.
So what I’ve started to do was use what seems to be the foundation of the diet, which is:
1- don’t eat carbs and fat together
2- eat the P&C meals earlier, and the P&F meals later in the day
3- try to not eat “carb only” meals.
Well, sure enough, I’ve been pretty steady with a loss between 2 and 4 pounds each week for a few weeks. Now, I know this will eventually plateu. When it does, I’ll look to clean it up further.
SO, My question- “is it going to be more effective (from a weight loss perspective) to clean up my carbs during the day, or the fats at night?” I know, I know, I should do both(and eventually, I will), but I’m in no rush to lose the weight, and would rather do it gradually so that I don’t feel like I’m going through this dietary hell.
Any thoughts or suggestions you can make are appreciated.
thanks
Bob

ps, my training is lifting 2x week, cardio 2x week (bike or rower), martial arts 1x week.

My vote would be to clean up your carbs during the first part of the day in order to help improve your insulin sensitivity with the carb meals. I am also on don’t diet and get the majority of my carbs from oatmeal & maltodextrin (post w/o). Since you won’t be having carbs in the later part of the day and thus fall into a quasi-ketogenic state it would be good to have a better choice of carbs earlier on. IMHO, but wait for others to post as well.
