Can somebody please explain to me what is inspiring about this feat?
First of all, every elite powerlifter on this planet is stronger than me. So, no, I cannot do it better than them. But I still have an opinion, and in my opinion there are a lot of things wrong with the sport.
Equipment should be banned.
I am only interested in what the athlete himself is capable of doing, not whatever assistance gear may help him achieve.
The ROM needs to be lengthened.
Full squats and full range of motion bench presses should be required to pass.
If you disagree, please explain to me why. I am not trolling or trying to piss anyone off or come accross as disrespectful, it’s simply that I fail to understand what is awesome about equipped 5 inch lifting, provocatively speaking.

Equipment will never be banned, It is as much a part of our sport as RAW lifting is. As usual my best advice is to stop watching videos and reading about geared lifting if you don’t like them. Honestly I think you should get into a squat suit or bench shirt at least once to feel what it is like. Truly a whole different deal than RAW lifting. I lift single ply and love the challenge, there is just something crazy and awesome about holding 100 lbs over your max in your hands and feeling the squeeze of the gear on your body.
I know everyone has to agree with you on that, these squats that get passed are complete bullshit compared to IPF lifts or even other “full squats”. I do however love watching the extreme and these lifts are the epitome of it. If anything maybe they should break off and become something different so they quit tainting the true all time records. XTREME powerlifting or something… Full ROM benches and now even deadlifts are seeming to be a thing of the past. Guys falling over getting whites, and soft handoffs without elbow extension at the top! Either way I still enjoy watching it because of the crazy poundages moved. I still however prefer a great single ply NOT BELLY bench over a multiply bench any day.
I think you should give single ply a chance. look up guys like Brian Siders, Brady Stewart,
Andrey Malenchiev, nick weite, randall harris. you may enjoy what they do!
Different lifters have different ranges of motion regardless of equipment.
Gear helps you lift more and some guys prefer that and the challenges it takes compared to raw.
That should do it.

This is something EVERY lifter has to go through. For Donnie, 1250 is a max squat, for other guys it’s 500. Takes the same toll on any lifter that has 3 max attempts on squat then bench, so I won’t take “he was tired” as an excuse. Everyone that goes to pull deadlifts are tired.
Bullshit.
Couldn’t agree more. The longer you lift heavy stuff the closer you get to maximal recruitment which means you will be more tired from a “maximal” effort. I use quotes because, as in your example Monopoly, 500 pounds is not truly maximal unless the lifter is 130 lbs. Then and only then might they be the same “tiredness”. What’s more, I’m pretty new to geared squatting, but I will say this it takes way more out of you then raw lifting does. Way more.
Sorry guys, I know SPF is getting heat for all their squats but that was high. If you can not tell that, then you are just naive…
This is taken directly from the SPF Rule Book,
Rules for the Squat
A legal squat is performed when the top of the upper thigh at the hip (the crease of the hip) passes below the height of the knee.
Now, keep in mind it is still extremely impressive to see an individual even stand up with that weight. However, the fact still remains he is probably 2 inches above breaking parallel… I am not a raw ipf nerd who judges depth religiously. But really… Really?

Congrats to him, I know he’s been trying for awhile. On depth, it is what it is. I’d take Chad’s raw 905 squat any day over Donnie’s, just a totally different lift. Still Donnie is massivly strong. I’ll leave with this thought.
1265 squat
785 pull
480lb difference in the two lifts…
You know, I would be a little tired after squatting 1265 and benching 950…would you?
Yes, gear plays a big role here. Gear helps the squat way more than it helps the deadlift, but seriously, he was worn the hell out by deadlift most likely.
In the gym, my best pull was 655 but on the meet day, I was tired and ended up with 625 and a miss at 660.
Thats not even close to being true. Guys who arent in shape to pull deadlifts are tired. Also, to claim that 500 pounds exerts the same on the body as 1250 is completely asanine. Its like saying 90mph is the same as 200mph because they’re both fast.

I hope you don’t pull sumo. With your new set of rules, that would be banned too because the ROM is shorter.

You can’t tell if that happened or not. Unless you can somehow measure the crease of the hip while staring directly at someones crotch.

I also hope he doesn’t have ANY arch when he benches.

Won’t more weight make hitting depth easier? Or no?
My understanding of lifting gear is it makes the eccentric portion easier. Because of the strength of the suits, shirts, etc it’s harder to get full depth, the more you do the concentric the more it’s trying to do the eccentric. At least that is my understanding, if it’s incorrect someone please correct me as I’m curious.
Easier? not really. Different, yes. Your hip abductors have to be very strong to squat in a multiply suit. Your position has to be spot on or your knees will cave sudden and hard. Imagine having 1200lbs on your back and your knees caving, pretty sure your legs would explode.
I see what you’re saying. I guess I was thinking about a shirt and how most guys need a certain amount of weight in order to be able to touch their chest.
You are right in that regard. Having more weight pushing down on your gear makes it easier to find depth in the squat and bench, however it’s hard to maintain the correct position throughout the movement. If you get out of position on the eccentric you’re pretty much effed in the eh. I guess I interpreted your question and corstijeir’s response to be that a geared squat has an easier eccentric than raw. Mea culpa.
Yeah no sorry- didn’t mean for it to be easier than raw, just meant It aids with the eccentric. I’m a total newb so I appreciate the feedback from you guys
