No otc meds/alcohol/drug use for me. I would say I do sleep pretty well honestly. Caffeine intake is pretty low- 16oz coffee just after breakfast. I just got to thinking- when I was down I read a book that connects gut health to practically every other aspect of health. Are you familiar? Something to do with the body having three brains (head, heart, gut) and then it went into depth about different probiotics etc. If I started feeling this way about a year into my sentence, I would wonder if what I’m experiencing couldn’t be connected to that? Maybe probiotics are in my order? I’m not really sure. After receiving labs back I’m genuinely stumped.
Im stumped too. A lot of people have success at least in the short term with elimination diets like Carnivore. I used carnivore to turn my life around, no longer need to be so strict.
The goal of gut health is a healthy biome. To get there you have to take the wrong stuff out and let the right stuff in. I’d have you try red meat only for a couple weeks as a first step. After that, if there is no positive change, I’d consider adding a probiotic or prebiotic (google the difference).
I believe if you feel better your problem would be gut, insulin or iron/ferritin, etc relatived.
I don’t think carnivore is for everyone, nor do I think it needs to be permanent, but I’ve seen it pull several people out of acute situations in real life, and have heard countless more stories of the same online. Very much worth a shot for you in my opinion. Let me know your thoughts
Supplement wise I am fond of the combination of Tongkat Ali LJ100 and Fadogia Agrestis - for energy and libido. Huberman was/is right appearantly IMHO. You need to chose your vendor with care though, as most supplements are crap. LJ100 (Biotest/Omega man) will take care of that. If I’m allowed, I should mention Nootropics Depot and Double Wood Supplements as legit vendors.
It may be worth a try for 2-3 months, in order to establish a “new normal” for you.
Kim Chi and NAC - my personal stack for mental health.
I just did some looking into NAC. Are you talking about the actual food kim chi?
I’m going to research this a little and see what I come up with. Could you elaborate a little more on the acute situations you’ve seen it help with?
Here is an area absolutely full of success stories. I believe you can search by keyword or symptom:
https://carnivore.diet/category/success-stories/
They’re user submitted. Mine is in there somewhere
Yes - I have a few bites every day. Could be placebo but it seems to help my attitude, that whole gut biome thing.
The carnivore diet has allowed me to come very close to reversing my type two diabetes, when nothing else worked, including medication’s!
The carnivore diet is superior to all medication‘s, including statins!
Non-fasting glucose → 97 mg/dL
OP, how many calories are you consuming per day?
If you’re 170lb at 6’0, you could stand to gain 20-30lb, depending on your goals. Most will say that is excessive, but stuffing your face with something yummy for a couple of days may just lift your mood a little.
Awesome! Its a very powerful method, I try to be careful not to tout it as a cure all— but, almost everyone that tries it sees reduction in diabetes, blood pressure, triglycerides, hr-C, etc.
I myself dropped about 70lbs of pure fat, my heart arrhythmias went away, fatigue dramatically dropped… many more things I’ve forgotten about. That was 6 years ago. I still return to strict carnivore sometimes, but now I run on 75% meat, which seems to keep me at a maintainence level.
Right now about 2250 cal. Diet is posted in previous comment ^
After coming home from prison I counted cals to see where I was. I was struggling to get in 1800cal of healthy food, which lead me to the conclusion I had been under eating for a long time in prison. I’ve been slowly increasing weekly. Monday I’ll bump it up to 2450, the week after 2650, etc. once I find maintenance I’m going to run a 200cal surplus and keep training.
If you look at the pic I posted earlier in the thread I could stand to recomp.
I have a few bites of sour kraut every day. I’m in a pretty rural area so Kim chi may be hard for me to get but I do like it.
Pretty much the same. Maybe Kombucha.
I don’t think you should be worried about recomping until you figure out how to get yourself feeling better, if not optimal.
I think you should increase your calories, up the carbs, have some junk food here and there, find a proper strength training program to follow (I think you mentioned training for strength in one if your posts) and take it easy on yourself. You don’t need to recomp. You need to eat and build a foundation of strength.
Nothing good can come from having visible abs if you are mentally in the gutter.
I’m at a decent strength level. Level 5-7 movements in the gymnastics code of points. Now that I have access to equipment (we didn’t have much in prison) I can really work on bringing up weaknesses. You’re probably right imo, might be best to not go below maintenance until my energy levels are better.
Update-
Currently eating 2550-2750 cals per day. Supplementing with Tongkat Ali at 1g/day.
Still training full body 3x wk. I’ve lowered cardio to sprints 10x40 and 30 min LISS 1x a week.
Workouts to be more productive and I seem to have noticed a bit of positive difference in energy levels. Still not super motivated to train. Working around 50 hours per week. Definitely improvements though.
I just wanted to share. I don’t know how common it is, but I get the day after gym afternoon tiredness wave also. For myself it usually starts rolling in from midday and just gains momentum. Brain fog and strong fatigue. Yep nanna-naps about 2pm or 3pm. They do help and by evening the ship seems to right itself. Have been experiencing this since my mid-20’s and still get it today (almost 40!). If I worked a regular 9-5 job I’d have to given up weight training long ago. Am not a high energy person. My Dad is, brother is. Mum is not. So maybe I take after her in that respect. There is a whole spectrum of human energy wellbeing. We are not all the same. You can be in perfect health and still not be a high energy person. And that is okay. Just be kind to yourself. Mental wellbeing is just as important too, even more so. It is the generator of energy afterall.
I’d recommend a blood test that includes a male hormone panel with total testosterone, Estrodiol, free testosterone and SHBG. Its not uncommon for these things to be out of whack for people on sites like this.
I posted labs when I created this thread- they were recent
