Notes:

  • press went damn well and I’m confident in my ability on comp day
  • Farmers kept slipping. Grip might be shot from just fatigue but the initial pull went up so fast it messed me up. I’m pretty happy I pulled 490 for 3 fast reps. Last drop happened because the collars fell off
  • The guy yelling at me during farmers even asked ā€œhow the hell did you get it up that fast? The last time you did this it was a grind but there was no grind at all todayā€
  • Yoke has improved a lot. I flew with that shit. Need to set the bar a little lower
  • More good food and sleep for the night. Sandbags tomorrow

  • The guiding principle behind this was to get exposed to comp weight. I figured front squatting with something heavier than what I will hold for yoke press was a decent strategy so the weight won’t surprise me comp day
  • Sandbag is coming at some point this week. Playing it by ear, but I just haven’t felt like it yet
  • Buddy is in town and we are going to get a lifting session in together. Old wrestling friend so that will be super cool. We might do that 85% of bodyweight overhead challenge
  • Chins went amazing
  • Busy week ahead. 1 exam tomorrow and 2 on Wednesday.
  • MAJOR ACADEMIC WIN. Had my first real speech today in public speaking. I felt like I blacked out during it and sat down thinking ā€œOh fuck. I’m going to have to drop this class.ā€ Turns out I got a 98% but it was knocked down to a 92% because I was 30 seconds short. After class, my teacher held me and another student after class to encourage us to join a public speaking contest on campus. When I saw my grade and heard her say I did very well just didn’t hit the minimum time requirement, I was fucking shocked. After hearing her encourage me to join this thing, I was beyond shocked. Pretty proud of myself and I might just have that X factor for speaking.
  • I told my parents about the above and they were not surprised. To quote them both, ā€œYou always have some bullshit to say and never shut upā€. Words of encouragement

  • World religion and public speaking exams tomorrow. Religion is going to be rough. It’s an 1000 level course but more work than any other class I have because of the teacher. Fun times

Notes:

  • That shit was torture. Lots of triples, doubles, and singles. I’m happy with 60 reps because I underestimated the impact of the axle on this. Shit was hard to grab after a while and my hands hurt
  • Last hard workout. In need of food and sleep, will do bodybuilding and event stuff until comp
  • 95% on public speaking midterm and I know I’m going to have to drop my Religion class. The religion class is a lot of work for a shitty prof and since it’s not essential to my career path, I’m not going to let it drag my GPA down. I know for a fact there are other humanities that are way easier
  • To the above. My Religion teacher gave us an essay to do but said ā€œIt will be due Monday but I will pos the details by Saturdayā€ and then proceeds to sit to read a book during our midterm. It really pissed me off because we have 2 days off and she could have posted the information DURING OUR MIDTERM but now I have to wait and do it during the time off.

  • almost passed out on front squats. I don’t know if I wasn’t warm enough and couldn’t get into a good front rack or it was because I hadn’t ate anything
  • also i have been watching a lot from Healthy gamer gg and realized a lot of the stuff I experience is symptomatic of ADHD. pretty interesting tbh

  • Still at that same job but I’ve been doing less. I’m about to give the boss the old ā€œFuck you, pay meā€ speech because I’m tired of having the BARE minimum working on game days, not being able to take a lunch, and being a super reliable employee. I have no skin in the game so if I don’t give a raise, I’ll quit. Fuck that guy. It is kind of hard to get a part time job during the school year but I have enough saved to leave that shithole.
  • To the above, I enjoy having something to do on the weekends like that and the hours but I’m tired of him trying to fuck me at every turn

Was eyeballing some other strongman comps so I’d have a community to lean into and some direction to aim my free time and training

Might consider doing this but it gives me like a 4 week time between comps. I would have to probably break away from 5/3/1 just because of the quick turn around time and need to peak my deadlift. But assuming I’d compete in men’s novice LW, it’s very doable

I think my plan of attack would be to do something like Jamie Lewis’s imperial march. Basically just 30 minutes of singles. Hard work but would get me good at deadlift quick

  • Solid day of work, school, and meal prep so I’m ready to go to bed
  • I decided I’m going to compete again in November but unsure of the skill level. Will be decided after this weekend. The events at the November event are Max circuis DB for reps (might build something like @T3hPwnisher did), Last man standing floor deads, fingals fingers, carry medel, and keg to shoulder reps
  • The real fun part of this will be the short turn around time of 4 weeks. That challenge is what makes me want to compete
