Doing Dumb Stuff as a College Kid

Conditioning

5 Rounds (3:15 PR)

  • 5 Pull ups
  • 15 Air squat
  • 10 push ups

Notes:

  • I jumped up from the last set of push ups and absolutely nailed the crown of my head on a squat bar

SBS Hypertrophy Cycle 1

Time: ~22 minutes
Paused Bench: 130x3x9, 11
Mat Pulls: 280x3x7, 9

Notes:

  • Mat pulls seem to be weaker and tougher than regular deadlifts
  • Thinking these lifts just take longer because it’s pause bench and mat pulls drain me
  • Accessories to come

Really glad to hear that you got something out of my post. Doubly so since I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing, so at least I’m giving off the impression that I do lol. This in particular

Is definitely something that I could use some work on too.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying to see if you can make this happen, especially with technology opening up opportunities that might not have been around 20-30 years ago. On the flip side, I also agree that it might turn out you don’t want a passion to become actual work. One example that immediately comes to mind is how some people that love cooking/baking have absolutely no desire to work in a commercial kitchen.

In any case, love to see that you are getting goals mapped out. I’ve always found that working toward something makes me better, even if I ultimately abandon it and pursue other plans!

Definitely agree with this. Better off trying to do something instead of never pursuing anything

SBS Hypertrophy Cycle 1

Paused Squat: 175x3x9, 12
OHP: 125x3x7, 5
Pull up: 45x(9,4)
RH: 210x30

Notes:

  • Not sure what happened with OHP. Chalking it up to bad day
  • I think that is going to be my pull up ā€œtestā€. Pretty happy with how those sets went
  • Paused squats are feeling terrible but great
  • Trying to think of a way to combine SSB and log press for conditioning. Thinking about making it an AMRAP with 1 SSB squat/1 viper press

Attempt #1 at 75 dips in 5 minutes

62 dips in 5 minutes

Notes:

  • Closer than I think to hitting the goal. Might hit it and set the goal to 100 after that
  • Considering I want to push squats and dips, I may re-run building the monolith to achieve those 2 goals

SBS Hypertrophy Cycle 1

CGB: 160x3x9, 11
SLDL: 215x3x9, 11
BOR: 155x60

Notes:

  • Bench went surprising well considering I pressed and did those dips yesterday
  • Got my class schedule sorted out, unsure if SBS Hypertrophy will get a 2nd cycle due to time constraints. Backup plan is to run BTM to give me one last cycle of gaining
  • Most busy days have me on campus for 6 hours with an one hour break. That’s 2 days, so main lifting sessions would have to fall on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. I probably could have time to do a main session on those 2 days but I’ll have to experience them first to see
  • Good thing above the point above is that it gives me less time for bullshit. Will have to prioritize and execute the stuff I want done

Next Cycle/Previous Cycle Review

Sbs Hypertrophy:

  • The lots of pressing and upper back work really made all my presses feel very strong.
  • The leg work didn’t seem to be too much but at the same time my squat didn’t feel that much better (was switching bars a lot so but high bar was feeling amazing
  • Frequency was cool but at the end of the cycle I started to feel beat
  • Because of the high frequency, I felt like I couldn’t really take sets to true failure since I had to do a similar movement pattern the next day
  • Weakpoint Wednesday will make a return
  • Paused squats sucked but helped a lot

Next Cycle:

  • Starting my cut early because I’m getting tired of eating
  • Switching to chicken thighs for the first couple weeks (60 cal less than beef)
  • Reducing carbs because sweet potatoes aren’t cheap
  • Moving to 531 FSL 5x5 @ 90TM. Will pick what lifts I do the FSL work with later
  • Might do the Bronson challenge with it (on Jim’s forum but basically high rep push ups/pull ups/ squats)

ā€œFight nightā€

10 min AMRAP (21 rounds)

  • Viper log press (12in) x 1
  • SSB squat (115) with handle pulled in x 1

Notes:

  • Yes, it’s named after the Migos song because that’s what was on
  • It was deceptively hard. Started off not too bad but towards the end, it got tough
  • Probably get a lot faster with more log bar use

Dip Goal:

63 in 5:00 Minutes

Notes:

  • Pretty sure this will improve just by doing more dips
  • Decided the next training cycle will be 531 and widowmakers with the Bronson challenge
  • Definitely planing to take out the deadlift goal is cycle. Squat goal will probably happen this cycle (unsure)
  • Chest pump is immaculate
  • Tested deadlift max at 375. Going to use that as my max for 531. Just means deadlifts will happen in a couple of cycles instead of now

Vacuumed and mopped 2 houses today with 20lb vest on (total of like 3 hours/14,000 steps for the day)

Also with the cut, I’m kinda liking the feeling of being a little hungry as opposed to how you feel when putting on mass
