Doing Dumb Stuff as a College Kid

This will serve as a rant/manifesto/thought dump for myself

5/3/1 and Living Maximally

Fair warning: This post may seem stupid but I just want a place to layout another attack plan

As a very influential person told me in my life, “If you keep this up, you will be a fucking loser who knows how to fight”. While after getting away from this, I started lifting more, in his words, I can see myself becoming a “fucking loser who knows how to lift”. Now returning to combat sports with more life commitments and responsibilities, I have to take away from something to be able to do what I want.

Posting my thoughts about different things on this training logs is serving to be extremely beneficial to see my growth and maturity (Y’all see the post but I know the circumstances around it). While I’m really interested in making my own programs, I just don’t have that much time to do it. Especially after hearing that Rhino Rants video and seeing @throwawayfitness post on here, I realized I don’t need anything special. Also hearing Jim Wendler say his biggest regret was not doing more, I realized I don’t want to hinder growth by focusing on something like lifting. While these thoughts are 100% coming full circle, I’m going to return to 5/3/1.

Returning to 5/3/1, I want to commit to a year of it. A year boils down to ~15 cycles (rough estimate, I don’t feel like doing math). Some templates I’m interested in are BtM (probably my favorite at this point), 1000% Awesome, 531 with Pause bench and squat (in Beyond), BBB but really sore (on his blog), SVR II, Volume and Strength, God is a Beast, Supplemental, OG 5/3/1, Leviathan, and Krypteia. If I get bored, like @simo74 said a while ago, I’ll plug in variations of lifts using the 5/3/1 formula.

Outside of lifting, I want to do more to find what I want to do for the rest of my life and live more maximally instead of being a “loser” in those areas. Live more maximally meaning with more exploration and seizing opportunities, not the usual college kid definition of living “maximally”.

Appreciate everyone’s input over the time of keeping this log
