Dogpile 2010

I’m right on your heels on the 405 pull . but I think you’ll hit it before me . your 385 looked easier than my 375 felt from a couple months ago .

good PR

20 reps of ANYTHING is not exercise it’s torture. well done soldog.

Excellent progress over the months here Mr. Dog.

Great picture of the antlered-to-be-dinner-for-someone! I’m hoping for some upcoming opportunities that will bring the family to CO. We’ll see.

1 July 2010
Taking and extended holiday weekend so I went for a (relatively) easy ride
13.3 miles, 796 feet climb, 8 mph average
1 hour 32 min
max HR 163
avg HR 136
Kcal burned 1096

rode thru a brief but really nice rain shower on the up hill part, which btw was a forest road, sun came out on the second half of the ride. a very enjoyable outing.

That riding sounds tough. I need to get back to hitting the cardio harder.

Bike trainer 5 min
Deadlies 135x5, 185x5, 205x5
Work sets: 240x5, 275x5, 315x5, 365x1, 385x1 PR +10lbs

I didn’t start out today to go for a max deadlift. My legs were drained and I’ve been lethargic all day, so I was just going to do the minimum. But then I decided to try my opener and when that felt easy, I decided to try 385 and it went up fairly easily. Then I took the belt off satisfied, walked around talking to my son, put the belt back on and came really, really close to trying 405. Thought better of it and left that for another day. The 385 PR was in-and-of-itself a great confidence builder.

That really did look super easy. 405 plus more to spare I think. You did the smart thing; something I’ve only cottoned onto myself. Take the PR and the confidence and walk away for the day particularly when you’re getting close to a meet.

Training max = 275
Squat BWx20, Barx10, 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 150x5
Working sets 180x5, 210x5, 235x5, 275x1

Today revealed to me, once again, the drawbacks of mountain biking the day before squats. My legs and hips started bitchin’ from the getgo. Had to put the knee sleeves on to calm the pain in my knees but I couldn’t do anything about the hip flexors. So I stuck with the basics plus a single at my opening weight just to prove I could do it under less than optimal conditions. Tomorrow is our monthly wine tasting. This time held at a rustic cabin in Pine Colorado. No running water or electricity and the highest quality outhouse for facilities. We’ll be doing a ride at the nearby park. Two will do the ride I did yesterday, another guy and I will do a longer ride meeting up with the first group for a bit and then splitting up to finish. It will probably be a 4 hour ride.

3 July 2010
11.4 miles
1574 feet elevation
2 hours 50 minutes
avg heart rate 146
Max Heart rate 170
2219 kcals burned

I was too wiped by the first climb to do the longer loop which would have meant doing the big climb all over again. Still a pretty good ride.

Wow, big ride. You burned almost nine Klondike bars worth of calories.

You have to be getting in sick shape. That’s some nice work.

That’s some good climbing. It seems like there wouldn’t be much oxygen way up there.

Thanks kimba!
There isn’t but after living up here for 21 years a body adapts. The climbing is tough in loose soil, sand and rocks

how are you feeling about your cardio now, you stud muffin? that’s some serious heart work…

Thanks mj,

It felt like heart-attack work when my heart rate hit 170. I think that must be near my absolute max

yeah well - I don’t do klondike bars, I think of it as a 6-pack of beer. problem is that I drink the beer more often than I do this kind of ride.

I hear ya - my weekend had too much beer and wine… is there such a thing really?

maybe - depending on how your head and stomach feel the next day! and, of course, if you care about having a single large protruding ab vs something flatter…

What are abs?

ummmm beer… Did I mention I love beer. it is my one single vice that I dont walk away from I dont have many but I do often and I know it will kill my progress but I want to enjoy the journey as much as I can because you cant take the ride twice
