Dog Days

I’ve always heard that meat heads (Powerlifters, Oly lifters, Bodybuilders) partied like animals. So what’s it looking like for your June competition? How’s the cut feeling? [/quote]
They really really do party like crazy; I know that boxers don’t have a fantastic reputation; but they definitely don’t feast on food and alcohol quite as much as the lifters haha

Trained last night (I’ll outline below.)
I’m in good shape and I think everything from here will be additional.
Hope your own training is going ok.

12.05.14 PM

This was my first session of the “new camp.” I got out of work at 5.30 sharp and reached the gym at 6.00.
I decided I would train with headphones in to try and sharpen the focus.
I probably forgot to mention I kissed one of the girls from our gym Saturday. She’s a bit of a legend.

Warmup;
Joints & Major Muscle Groups.
5 Minutes skipping (Alternating Tempo.)

4 x 3s Bagwork
-Working on mechanics and combinations.
May need to work on a bit of additional variety in my shot selection.

4 x 3s Shadowboxing
-Focus on movement and defense.
May try and loosen up and go for additional speed.

4 x 3s Bagwork
-These were a good four rounds, switching from long outside fighting, to inside fighting.

1.5 mile jog - steady state

3 x 3s padwork
-Mike works non stop combination repeats.
the challenge is remaining explosive and trying to keep speed in the feet/body movement.

Cooldown.

Overall a good session. I enjoyed it, sweat buckets and felt the aerobic base was solid.
Obviously I have things to work on, but I am very satisfied where I’m starting from.
RPE; 8

How do you feel your training has helped you with kissing girls? What adjustment’s would you make to an amateur’s routine to help them along the road to the pro ranks in this regard?

13.05.14 AM

CONDITIONING
5.00am start. I did the epsom salts bath properly last night and felt recovered waking up.
That didn’t stop me bitching about it, but I was recovered.
I didn’t eat. Open to suggestions here; what is good for me to eat 1 hour before a tough conditioning session?

Warmup;
Dynamic Stretching
1 round aerobic work.

Circuit (4 No.)
(i) Agility Ladder (Narrow to wide squat)
(ii)Battling Ropes
(iii)Bosu Ball Med ball throws from Floor
(iv)Jumping Med. Ball Slams
(v) Inverted Rows (Rings)
(vi)TRX Squat Jump
(vii)Weighted Club Squat FW/BACK
(ix)Bulgarian Bag Get up

KB Snatch Test
3 x 3 min rounds, 1 min breaks 10/10s.

Cooldown

Animal of a session.

Well firstly Larry (Merchant;)
I’d like to thank God. God and Duty-free tax reduced aftershave.
I definitely think that becoming a professional athlete has had an enormous positive contribution in my pursuit of kissing girls.

I train hard- and you know results like these speak for themselves…

In retrospect, I probably kissed more girls before turning pro, but feel that quality such as this eclipses any previous.
A rematch? Yeah, I’d definitely be open to a rematch.
She was a quality opponent and we’ll gladly give her a shot at the title.

I’m not a natural talent at this at all.
I’m Ugly; so for me to be kissing girls, I must be doing something right.
So I’d give the following advice;
-When marked up or sporting a black eye, always wear boxing paraphenalia.
This will set you apart as an athlete as opposed to a ruffian.
-Invest in good aftershave.
We might not look good, so we cant afford to smell bad.
-Train your ass off in the gym.
Girls like 6 packs.
If they say they don’t - they’re lieing.
Girls like 6 packs.
-Allow every girl your attention, as though she were the only girl in the
world.
Sooner or later you’re going to meet a great girl. Don’t wanna blow it by
being aloof.

This is the kind of solid training advice I’ve been scouring the internet for. How do you deal with being over matched, or opponents outside your class?

I’m glad I can help buddy.

The ranking system is completely ripped asunder by this combination.
You don’t become overmatched because there is “something special” about you that not everyone has. Its similar to the new concept “peacocking.”
It sets you apart,Its interesting and exudes masculinity.
If you can get a good gameplan in place, box clever and use a little charm, youre certainly helped toward a 12 round victory.

Unfortunately, being outweighed will always remain a problem. If you’re backed into a corner by a heavyweight, you’re in trouble.
All you can really do is try to clinch, close your eyes and think of somewhere safe.

Haha, I’m still consciously just trying to last the distance. There’s the difference between an amateur and a pro in a nutshell! I’ll be working on my showboating. Hopefully I don’t come unstuck and get counted out early the first time I try.

Laughed out loud at the second paragraph. In my office.

13.05.14 (PM#1)

STRENGTH

Unfortunately, because of the chaotic start to the week, I’m playing catch up on my strength.

I’ve scheduled in 531 SSS again as it was so effective last time.
I think after this contest I’ll have to adjust and maybe try something more traditional. But right now this is serving my requirements.
Today I started off slowly.
I actually felt terrific on the plyometric phase, but elected to ramp up on the MP to see where my head and body were at recovery wise.
Maxed maybe 5kg under my previous and 10kg under where I feel it should be now were I fully rested.
Anyhow, still wanting to get a worthwhile session in, I quickly adjusted my percentages and got to work.

Klokovs felt excellent as usual; glad to have them back in.
Surprisngly strong on the pronated grip chin-ups.

My body is telling me all about it now. Its gonna be in a bad mood after boxing tonight!

Thanks mate.

Ha, ye, who needs Tinder when you’ve got TNation!

Fact!
I’m gonna delete Tinder actually…
…NOW…
OK Now…
Now…

I’ll just leave it a while longer :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though; I don’t think there are any real people on Tinder though;
just false superficial presentations of peoples best impression of themselves.

Thats what intrigues me about the girl last weekend.
I was there through blood sweat and tears (literally) and she was a pretty great lady throughout.

You training tonight mate?

I couldn’t agree more. I also feel like I’ve missed out because I seem to be the only person who hasn’t had their picture taken with a lion or tiger cub. I feel like it is harming my chances, and would explain why my enthusiastic ‘right-swiping’ is largely unreciprocated.

The girl from last weekend sounds like a winner, particularly if she trains at your boxing gym. If watching the TV show Vikings has taught me anything of value, it’s the inherent attractiveness of having a shield maiden.

Ye, off to the gym tonight - more relaxed and definitely looking forward to it!

Definitely agree on the cub issue :frowning:
And why is having a profile pic with another female such a no-no?
Women are twice as dangerous and waaaaaayyy more needy than lion/tiger cubs.

Viking, hmmm… I’ll check it out.
Seriously though, she is a good one. I think if nothing were ever to happen, I’d be glad to count her as a friend.

Thats the job man; hope you kicked ass

13.05.14 PM

Ok, was only finished work at 6.00 which made it a bit of a barrel run across the city to the gym.
I was in and started before 6.30. Definitely refreshing the rapport I had with my coaches before I left.

Warmup;
Joints & Muscles
5 Minutes skipping (Varying Pace.)

6 x 3s Bagwork
I performed these on a lighter bag as Tuesday would be a “down” evening.
Still the focus was on landing punches correctly and not throwing less than 2 shots.
Speed actually seemed ok. Interesting.

3 x 3s Shadowboxing
Focusing on aggressive/defensive movement

3 x 3s Schooling
I had a young guy from the gym come at me trying to pin me into corners.
4 bodyshots if i got trapped in the corner. We worked in a tight tight ring, so even excessive movement would actually lead me to run out of space.
Outside of everything else, this young guy was really cool, but shy.
He’s actually the younger brother of the aforementioned girl, but I didnt know that until after!
He’s a cool guy.

Thats where I wrapped my session. Tuesday was a tough tough day and I said I’d leave it there, so that i finish my work with good form.

So things I need to work on.
-Footwork; speed & consistency
-Ranges; I need to trust in my speed and timing to let me work from long range.
-Defense;I need to be more strict with my form here. I have good reflexes and get away with a lot.
Reflexes will be greatly diminished after 5/6 rounds, so have to nail the technique.

RPE; 8

That’s awesome mate, we could all do with more people like that in our lives, one way or another.

My ass was roundly and repeatedly kicked, round after round. It’s the first time they’ve let that happen (I’ve expounded on it at length in my log, obviously). Honestly though, as frustrated as I was (and I was really, really frustrated), I enjoyed it, and the only emotion I felt in the aftermath is determination. I learned a lot about myself, as cliched as that sounds.

There’s already been a change in your demeanour; you sound steeled and determined.
The fact that you haved to do 6 with different partners- and weren’t withdrawn; that’ll tell you something. Well done.

Thanks mate, I appreciate it. I feel different in myself too, week on week. And, that’s what everyone was saying to me after. One of them came up and said, ‘so, you got the shit beaten out of you tonight. In a good way. They wouldn’t have let you do that if they didn’t think you were up to it’. Gave me a bit of a boost. I really like the sound of some of the drills and sparring stuff you do in the gym. I hope we’ll get to do some similar stuff once I’m more experienced.

Thats the business

Tbh Irish gyms - theyre evolving - but they are largely hardcore, old school gyms. The reason we produce good ams is because we literally fight every weekend!
The drilling however, is something I picked up in UK gyms and I really believe in them.

Yeah pal; I’ll def be in the UK sometime soon; we’ll do some and have you kick my ass sparring!

Ye from what I’ve seen, you lads are tough!

That sounds awesome! It’d be an incredible opportunity for me no doubt! What would you be doing over here, fighting?
