Man, I’m sorry to hear about the cut. Were you wearing headgear? A couple of weeks ago this happened the two guys in the same week at my gym, but they’re the stubborn sort.
I don’t know shit about your situation, if you should fight or not, but it seems to me that if you’ve put in all of this hard work and sacrafice and it’s not going to ruin your career if a doctor stops the fight if that thing opens up; you should fight.
Make the choice that’s right for you, do it for the right reasons, and you’ll never look back and regret it.

Yeah, I was wearing headgear. Just an accidental elbow; no malice.
I’m meeting with a surgeon later, hopefully he will be able to steer me in the right direction.

No, its not common knowledge really?
I’ve said it to my parents, my sparring partner and my training partners- thats all?

The doctor said that he would strongly reccomend I withdraw from competition and avoid impact for 21days.
I’m seeing another doctor tomorrow for a third opinion I guess.
The doctor put forth a convincing arguement though.
He asked how hard I trained.
Then he asked “how would you feel about being stopped on a cut?”
He said there is no chance it will hold together for 6 rounds and he would stop me if he saw it open.

Last night I settled for low contact technique drilling.
I did 12 x 3s with my partner and we focused on defensive manouevres and subsequent counters.
I was pleased to feel some more speed in my punches and I felt that was throwing my straight punches rather well.
My training partner had two criticisms to offer;
- Sometimes I tend to be static on my feet, neglecting a strength which is movement.
- I have a tendency to fall for double feints and can be succeptible to straight right hands as a result.
My partner wouldnt even do school sparring with me as my cut “looked bad.”
It’s sort of angry looking- red and a bit swollen. Sore to the touch.
With a new phase of training facing me, I’m trying to evaluate the areas in which I can improve.
I want to strip down my training and my entire lifestyle to progress and improve.
As always, any input would be appreciated, but thinking out loud- here’s how I feel.
Athletically
-Increase Anaerobic Thresholds and add explosive strength.
-Add some Muscle to arms & Calves for injury prevention
-Continue with core gains, add more to posterior chain.
Technically
-Co-ordinate feet and combinations on the offense.
-Refocus on movement and evasive defences.
-Return to mechanics to increase speed.
Mentally
-Enjoy the sport more.
-Focus aggression.
-Improve concentration on the defence.

I am really looking forward to seeing how this progresses and what activities you complete in order to reach these goals.
CUT- How is the cut looking today? With any open wound you’ve got to watch for staph infection, as well as other infections. Keep a close eye on it and if it grows rapidly see a doctor promptly. I had staph in my knee a few years ago and it wrecked me for about 8 weeks.

I think it was Jim Wendler that said if you have definable goals you can put processes in place to get there. I know what I want, so its as simple now as putting the procedures in place to get there.
The cut is sore. Its raw and sore to touch.
I don’t think staph is much of a problem here,(because of our climate) but yeah, always have to watch for tetanus etc.
Tetanus huh, it would be very strange for anyone to get tetanus from a cut here. Haha maybe cold climates aren’t all that awful if they keep staph away!
Just realized that if you compete on the 26th of June we’ll be competing on the same day.

Wicked! It’ll be cool to hear your thoughts/feelings as we are in the run up.

Well, to address the cut issue - if everyone else can see it, your opponent can too, and if he’s not a total dipshit, he’ll notice it immediately.
You and I both know that he’ll do everything he can to open that fucker back up ASAP, and because you know that, you’re going to be consciously trying to protect it - which means you have lost the initiative, and now your first priority is defending against what he plans to do, not imposing your own game plan.
If you’re not in the clear, don’t fight. A pro loss can set you back pretty far, and if you’re looking at this as a career, that means you have to look at this as a marathon and not a sprint. Don’t let your pride goad you into making a mistake for no other reason other than you’ll feel like a bitch not getting on with it.
Thats pretty much how I see it.
How can you train your heart & soul out and then go in with a glaring vulnerability.
I’ll try and get an overview here of my goings on over the weekend.

Ok, so I have to admit I was out the night before. My friend and I hit a few bars and went clubbing. I don’t actually drink any of the good stuff, so it was mostly juice and whatever. It was a real release and even though I got little sleep, I felt mentally refreshed waking up Saturday.
The session was great; 1 hour bodyweight circuit. Very focused on the core - It was tough, but enjoyable.
Afterwards, I performed 4 x 3s KB Snatch. I really pushed the boat out here & worked very hard.
I performed. Very happy.
04.05.14 PM
Technical Boxing Session on Sunday.
im figuring things out; analysing my past style and learning how I can adapt for more success in the future. Its very attainable.
05.05.14 PM
Running.
Yes, Really. Running… Me… Weird.
A girl talked me into it.
Jogging - 2 Miles
Shuttle Runs (4)
50m Dead Start Sprints
(i) from laying down.
(ii) from facing down.
(iii) from 10 situps.
(iv) from 10 pushups.
They say that idle hands do the devils work…
This must be true, because on a night off last night, my friends came up with the stupidest idea; maybe ever.
This is relevant, I swear… information will follow.
edit
“my friends”
this should read my friend & I.
Which actually mean; “I came up with a stupid idea.”
Going to do a bit of work for charity in the run up to my next fight. I’m excited.

Sprinting, LOVE IT!
Yeah!
I have a tendency to fall in love with running.
However, I only ever do sprinting if Ia have a partner.
I hate the effect steady state running has on my body; but I love the effect it has on my head!
There are so many trails and tracks around in picturesque locations its hard not to enjoy an hour inside your own head.

Very interesting weekend.
I was lucky enough to tag along with a team competing in the Euro Powerlifting Championships.
It was a complete eye opener for me and I’m so glad that I got the opportunity.
I don’t know what I had expected, but the comradery and relaxed nature was a real surprise.
Three of the ladies I travelled up with medalled; they were insane good. Two golds and a silver.
The silver was my favourite performance; broken thumb and she still pulled 130kg!
I went to the boxing show I should have competed at afterwards.
My opponent boxed and performed well. I was sick to my stomach sitting ringside.
I actually felt in pain sitting at ringiside and not being able to compete.
I was anxious, fidgety and left as soon as the main card was over.
I actually hooked up with the ladies team after party after that.
Any demons in my head were dispelled pretty quick then.
I don’t drink; but MY GOD what a party.
I’ve always heard that meat heads (Powerlifters, Oly lifters, Bodybuilders) partied like animals. So what’s it looking like for your June competition? How’s the cut feeling?
