Sure, theyre tough. but we’re evolving with the success of the national team.
Some really great technicians here now - same as the UK.

And for me. Always a privilege training with a friend.
I will be sparring in London; either June or July for sure

FAIL!

14.05.14 (PM#1)

STRENGTH;
I’m gonna have to get my strength sessions done in the morning; although I feel very alert in the afternnon/lunch sessions I am having to set a frenetic pace and this is probably taking from my recovery between sets.
Despite this I smoke 300lbs with ease.
Theres scope for way more actually, which surprised me as I hadn’t pulled a single DL… since I lst posted them here; whenever that was?

Rack Pulls were a fail.
Too high, took feck all from them except locking out correctly.

Chin-ups were sick. Was pulling strong until I ripped out a callus.
I didnt notice, but a girl in the gym screamed when she saw blood running down my arm; I nearly collapsed laughing at her!
I love those belt squats for form and speed. Getting me lower

That’s awesome. June/July? Damn, going to have to put in some hours!

14.05.14 PM#2

Got out of work pretty much at 5.30. Traffice was eased so I was at the gym just before 6.00

Warmup
Joints
4x3s Bagwork
4x3s Shadowboxing
4x3s Bagwork.

Initially I had a long descriptive post elaborating on what I did in this session and why.
However it failed to post.

Last night I gave a friend a dig out and worked security i a nightclub.
I have no patience left to re-post!

STRENGTH

Very tired going into this session, so I decided just to test bench.
Ramped to 100kg ok. I ramped quickly and effortlessly. All of a sudden at 100kg the bar felt heavy and my arms were dead.
I dropped the weight and got in some volume at 60kg.
Did some pullups and got some good protein in after.

The priority today is to get a good boxing session in later on, so I was going to extend myself on a BP day.
BP has always been my achilles heel. I’m debating using Spinal tap for press days. I’ve never given it much attention. Maybe I need to roast myself to improve.
I could stay with SSS, no problem, but I’m mnot sure if my maxes will challenge me.

15.05.14 PM#2

Out of work for 6.00 and scrambled over to the boxing gym for 6.30

Warmup;
All Joints

Can’t imagine how annoying it is that it hasn’t posted, second day running.

Re: your previous training - 100kg BP @ 168lbs is a weak point? Damn man, I have numbers pretty similar to most of yours, but my bench is 10-15kgs behind. I would have thought that outside of the internet, you’re pretty strong.

Really?
I know this sounds silly (from an alleged athlete) but my main point of reference for weight no.s is my younger brother. He would be well up at the 135/140kg level i think?

hmmm… so whats your problem Forum God?
I train hard every day so I can flaunt it shamelessly and you decide to smite me??? TWO DAYS IN A ROW?!!

Warmup;
Joints & Main Muscle Warmup
Cardio/Muscle Groups - 1 x 3 Min round
5 Minutes Skipping - Alternating Pace

6x3s Bagwork
Tried to box clever, but let the hands go.
May be a little stuck between two styles at the moment.
I dont want to be one or the other.
I want to emalgimate the two and enjoy the benefits of both.

4x3s Padwork
Volume, volume, volume.
Technical focus was on moving the feet and head, while still trying to come back with an almost immediate combination.

3x3s Shadowboxing
Movement and punch mechanics.

5x3s Sparring
This essentially was very light sparring with two light (albeit elite) amateurs. Interesting to see how i adjust when you take away my strength.

Cooldown.

I poured sweat. It was our first day training in any sort of summer heat. I loved it.

Sweet Jesus. That’s damn strong. I’ve got some mates playing pro rugby who probably aren’t shifting any more than that. You guys are obviously natural athletes. My younger brother also out lifts me by a considerable amount, so I know that pain all too well.

Yeah; Conor is a strong guy; have to admit he doesnt train that hard, but he’s ma big big guy. Plays rugby (union) senior level. He’s front row, usually No.2/3.

Its funny; There are 4 boys in our family.
The three others share a body shape; extremely broad shoulders, big chests and thick legs. they’re like my Dad - If I remember rightly, when I was a kid he was 100kg, but very very lean. A bit older now he’s actually a lot lighter.

I obviously take my genes from my mother; I’ve got a pretty narrow frame, but I think per pound I’m probably bringing more strength to the table.
The others would be more athletic than myself, but maybe not as interested.

Ha, good job you can fight. There’s just the two of us, but my brother is built a lot more like your 3. Like you, I’ve got my mother’s small bones and frame. My dad supposedly threatened before I was born that if I had her shoulders he’d push me back! My brother’s been bigger, stronger, and more hirsute than me since he was 15.

I fell a little far behind on these posts. I’m glad to see the weights back in it, this has been one of the most helpful parts of your log for me. I love the back and forth you and newboxer were having, that shit was gold. I think I need a proper weights gym. My weight is coming along, I’m six weeks out, but I worry about my cardio. Sorry if my post is all over the place. Good to see hard work and improvement!

Heya pal; hope alls good?

Yeah; I’m glad to have the weights back too;
Its now pretty much proven; nothing keeps me leaner than weights!

Don’t stress about the cardio too much man;
3 x 3s IS a long time in competition, but at the end of the day you will get through it- you will reach that finish line.
Just concrete your belief in your technique and work your ass off in the gym.
You WILL be fine brother

I was up bright and early as I had to get in to the city before traffice became unbearable.
The morning was fresh and bright. Which was more than could be said for for me; I was a bit groggy and tired.

Still when I got into the gym I was happy.

Its funny. before the week of hard training starts the weights feel so easy. I actually feel bad for not exerting myself on these lifts; but I know come wednesday my body will be glad I didnt go all out early.

Things are kinda weird right now.
There are 3 girls messaging me and I know they’re interested.
But I’m not interested.
I can’t get the girl I train with out of my head.

Thanks, I’ll keep putting in the work, I know it’s going to pay off!

20.05.14 PM

I woke this morning with a bit of a head cold.

Awake at 4.30… Just lay in bed until 5.00 chilling out.
When I got up I experimented with some yoghurt and BCAA’s.

CONDITIONING
In the gym for 6.00am. Lucky to have my training partner there as Gerry had laid out a tough one.

Warmup

4 Circuits

(i) Box Jumps
(ii) KB Squats
(iii) Battling Ropes
(iv) Ab Wheel Rollouts
(v) Russian Twists
(vi) Med Ball Slams
(vii) TRX Tricep Extension
(viii)Inverted Row
(ix) TRX Bicep Curl
(x) Bulgarian Bag Get-Ups

2x 3s Kettlebell Snatch Test

Cooldown

The sweat poured after this session.
I like the little pieces of isolation on my arms and posterior as I’ve been complaining about these areas.
Work capacity is well up.
Pre workout wasn’t ideal as I did feel an insulin crash on Round No.2 of the KB test.

Thought you might enjoy this find relevant to Defranco’s agile 8.

Also, I just became quite sick. Advice for training for a competition while sick?

I’ll check out the video on break; thanks so much pal!

You know; I always train to the motto;
“The goal is the goal, is the goal…”
But when you’re sick it’s kinda an exception. You have to drop the intensity to get better.
I don’t think stopping is ideal either; but you have to adapt to your situation.
A compromise needs to be made and I think a good move to make is to drop the high intensity training.
You can still drill footwork, defense and combinations; but remove impact and intensity.
Just flow through the motions and mechanics and take it’s as a technical exercise?

Also, it’s a hateful situation, but if the immune system is low; it has to be rebuilt. You can take a look at your caloric intake or maybe your micro nutrient intake… Whatever caused you to get sick needs to be eliminated in the future.

It feels like a long week already.
I’ve had two 5.00am starts and two good morning session.
Monday morning was strength where I integrated the Spinal tap program for Press.
I both enjoyed this and coped with it well; I have zero soreness today

This morning I had conditioning and a new circuit I hadn’t encountered before.
It was tough, but I feel that I have progressed in work capacity. I was always strond aerobically and I think that my muscular sytem and anaerobic thresholds are not up there also.

Sandwiched in the middle was a great boxing session in the heat of the gym.

I’ve had a bout of paranoia about posting my training- I just learned that quite a few people in the gym read this thread (which is really cool!) but makes me wonder how many potential opponents are on here too :I
