It won’t make you physically stronger if you define strength as the ability to move maximum weight. It will improve your specific endurance and mental fortitude.
I would be very wary about running with weight from the off. I have been ‘rucking’ (we call it tabbing in UK Military) for approx 10 years. We teach to start out with 15kg and do 4 miles of fast walking including some shuffling (not running!) and some hills, on about 15min/mile pace, working up to 20kg over 10 miles at 12min/mile pace. Once every week / 2 weeks is enough. Route selection is a big part; make sure there’s hills, mixed terrain etc. Pounding tarmac with 50% of your body weight on your back is asking for stress fractures, shin splints and other nasty overuse injuries.
