Does Protein Powder Go Bad?

My brother had some Metabolic Drive and Surge in his pantry and since he didn’t use it he gave it to me. However they are way past their expiration date.

the Metabolic Drive is dated 06/08, which I’ll probably throw away and the Surge is dated 07/09 which I’m thinking of keeping. Thoughts? They smell fine, no clumps or anything. It was high in his pantry, sealed and away from light. Some people say its okay, some say it MIGHT be bad. I would like to hear from the experts if I could.
Thanks

Im guessing if you try some and have no bad reactions, bloating, etc. then all is well? =D

It could lose some of its quality… protein could deteriorate… but apart from that I dont think it can do too much harm…

I don’t know about after it’s expired, but I must say I’m surprised at the lifespan of protein powder.

I live in Taiwan and the summers are quite hot and humid yet my powders never get lumpy or anything.

Expiration dates on protein don’t matter too much. Water has an expiration date, ffs.

Protein powder is far too dry for anything to grow in it. You might get an alteration of taste, but it won’t get rotten or anything like that.

They’re probably both fine if they’ve been unopened the whole time.
Expiration dates are necessary to keep sales up, and I would chance a guess that all expiration dates on every item sold in existence are way before the time they would actually expire (I know this to be true for vending items at least).

^^ I agree, but we all have that member of the family or spouse who insists on trying to throw away milk because it says it expires today.
I tried telling my mom and now my girlfriend that milk is probably good for 10 or more days after the expiration date.

Protein lasts forever. It’s fine.

If you don’t want it, send it to me.

I guess you guys never had your protein spoil.

Results of eating 3 scoops of bad protein powder: 24h cramps i diarrhea (resulting in severe dehydration).

Mine spoiled because I didn’t keep them refrigerated, and the room where they were got pretty warm due to wheater change, during the winter it’s like below 0°.

Keep your powders in a cool and dry place.

i find it’s more to do w/ when you open it than the date on the carton. milk starts smelling weird to me after about a week of being opened.
