Does HIIT Cardio Tax the CNS?

I read in a thread that High Intensity Cardio can take its toll on the Central Nervous System. Is this true? And if so, does that mean that lifting after cardio is barely effective? I’d like to hear some thoughts on the subject.

well i wouldn’t do my HIIT before my weight training. a true HIIT session will leave you pretty drained and i doubt you’ll have anything left to make for an effective weight workout. it does indeed tax the CNS so avoid doing in on days where you do very taxing lifts like squats, deads, etc.

It kind of makes me wonder; one of the authors on this site says that beginners have the ability to do squats and deads on the same day. I wonder if smaller people have more effiecient CNS.

I don’t think that’s what it means. They can only do both because their CNS is LESS efficient, so doing both of the lifts is less taxing than it would be if they were stronger.

yes beginners don’t yet have the ability/capacity for extremely demanding workouts just yet so their cns isn’t being pushed as hard as a more advanced lifter who lifts much bigger weights and knows how to get the most out of every set/workout.

spot on.

Everything you do while you are awake taxes your CNS. Eat more food, get more sleep, take more fish oil, eat more food, take more naps, and eat more food.

This will keep you from burning out.
