Thoughts on the day: benching is a pain in the ass in my setup. Need a spotter. Too hard not to slam the weight back. Fortunately my wife was there, and fortunately I only have to bench once a week on this program. DEADLIFTING WAS A BITCH. The first two sets I didn’t notice something was off, but when I got to 260 and went to pick it up I realized that my ground wasn’t level. Like, at all. The 45’s from Dicks are 2 inches less diameter than standard plates, so I had the bar on 1x4’s (only had to raise the bottom 1 inch to get the center of the plates where they’d normally be. So I brought my level out and set it on the bar and it was tilted, BADLY. So I had to put the left side under a 2x4 and keep the right side on a 1x4. The stones I was standing on were actually pretty level, since they’re seated a bit crooked in the ground, so I finished my last 2 sets way more comfortably.
All in all, with setting up the stands out of my shed, moving weights around, blah blah blah, the workout took almost 2 fuckin hours, haha. But I got it done.
Oh, it’s my birthday today too.
30 years young, boys.
Happy birthday mate.
Happy birthday flap. Have a good one
You’re not even 10 years older than me. That doesn’t sound right, haha.
Happy BDay. Hope you’re able to celebrate in some way - maybe a nice beef & egg cake.
You old fart.
Only 30? Fuck man. Happy birthday, hope you have a memorable one…
Thanks fellas. It was a super quiet day. No complaints.
Happy birthday! 30??? Crap, I thought we were close in age.
And I’m not surprised about your uneven deadlifts. I figured you’d battle something like that. Sounds like you found a quick solution.
Haha, everyone at work was like “what?” because I’m balding, have 2 kids, went through the military, blah blah - seems to everyone else like I should be 35+. My wife is 36 (born in '83), by the way. Age seems to be a lot less of a unifying factor to me nowadays as opposed to life situation. If you’re at home with young kids, then whether you’re 25 or 45, we’re pretty much in the same boat, unless you’re one of those rich people who has kids and then the nanny raises them in the mansion.
Wife snapped a picture of me on my 2nd set of deadlifts - wearing a wife beater, stretchy brown khakis, and old dress shoes that have been converted in slippers to walk around the muddy wet yard before standing in that doormat on socks to do my lifts. There’s one problem, despite my wife being into it - my arms just blow up every time I do everything, and my chest stays the same. My back is always a good size, but pretty much the only chest work in this program is bench, which is 100% shoulders and arms for me. There are dips, but they do as much for my triceps as my chest. Fortunately I’m halfway through the program now and still enjoying it, but after a certain point my arms just begin to look silly, haha.
Dayum! You are very close to reaching my goal. If you’ve watched Daddy’s Home then you’ve heard this quote: “He’s got legs for arms!”
I have, and that movie was fuckin hilarious, my wife and I died watching it.
Meanwhile, you have sweet chest genetics.
Meet in the middle?
Damn looks like each arm eats six eggs and .5 lb of beef a day
I’m still going for a bigger chest. And shoulders. Arms are low on the priority list.
I’ll let you know if I figure out how to make those two groups grow.
Which to me is really fucking silly. I’m as hooked as any other meathead, but so what I can’t lift weights for a while? I’m not hurt, I just cannot access them. I am fully capable of physical activity. So, providing I do what I can during this period, which is a fair bit, once I can go back to lifting weights there will be minimal loss of progress.
Does anyone really think that a few months of only being able to do bodyweight exercises will cause terrific muscle loss and complete weakness?
I don’t mean to say this to demean anyone, and kudos to the people finding ways around this. However, if the only concern you have during this period is not being able to lift weights you have a whole lot more going for you than many others right now.
There’s too many conflicting vibes in this picture. First I see the clever, yet total redneck deadlift setup, the wifebeater, and the lawn chair I could picture you smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer in, BUT…then you have an Air Pod in your ear. Like, who are you?
I’m just glad you have pants on, and not long socks and baggy Dickies shorts. Then we’d have another persona to deal with.
Care to post some videos of you deadlifting on that set up?
Yeah man, my wife actually also took a video of me on the 2nd set deadlifting. Will post it tomorrow when I grab her phone and upload it to youtube - she’s passed out right now.
