Do You Write Screenplays?

I do very barebones outlines. Basically, I just establish the main beats of my story and go from there. I never bother with the recipe cards or anything like that. If you want to get away with this you need very well-developed characters who can take the script/etc to places you never thought it would go.

Writing is lonely work. I think you have to love it to keep doing it day after day after day.

Before someone asks, no I do not write screenplays. I write erotica and magazine articles and blog content. I love to write but some days it is difficult to get up and chain myself to my desk.
How’d you get into magazine writing (ie get the jobs), whether as a freelance writer or full time employee? I ask because I want to do writing on the side but I don’t know how or where to start.
I’ve only freelanced for magazines and the process is really easy and yet difficult at the same time, lol. Basically, you write a query, which is a pitch, to the magazine telling them what the article is going to be about. If they accept it, then you write the article.

It’s not hard but you have to be prepared for a lot of rejection. Don’t let that get to you and don’t be afraid of looking foolish because you’re new. Check out the forums at Absolute Write, the people there are really friendly and they will help you find editorial guidelines for specific magazines and learn how to write a query. Read everything you can find before you start asking questions though.

Good luck.
