Do You Still Believe in the United States?

Fwiw, my in-laws are cattle ranchers. Legit, generational Texas ranchers. Great grandpa settled the ranch and is memorialized on a historical marker for contributions staving off the Comanche Indians.

I still don’t believe in subsidies and see farms like any other business.

People already do this, but it’s “Big Ag.”

Farmers do not need to be paid to not grow any crops

Lots of people do when their bellies are full.

Farm subsidies are much more than red state big business handouts. They are a strategic priority that ensures continuity of food supply in times of war, terrorism, bad public policy and natural disasters.

There are still Japanese people alive today who can tell you what it is like to rely on food imports during wartime.

2 years ago people in the US had to rely on air drops of foreign baby food!

Two years ago gave us all a good lesson on how fragile modern supply chains are, even with goods that don’t have the shelf life constraints that most food items have.

The same line of thought goes into all kinds of defense procurement, where the US taxpayer pays a premium to purchase from NATO sources to ensure that the sources are still there if war is to happen.

Sounds like a money laundering scheme…

It absolutely is that and many more unsavory things. You and I are now, among other things, the collective owners of a $60.00 USD nylon washer, held in trust for the US Military by an additional entity involved in the transaction. Yes. One washer.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you or I could get into the business of purchasing this from Amazon for $14.00 and then re-selling it for $6,000.00?

This is, of course, a completely hypothetical event but very representative of the kind of wild stuff that contributes to the high cost of government procurement. Think mindless clicking on computer screens displaying massive numbers and vendors who have learned that the answer is often “yes” with not a single question asked.

Small Parts Nylon 6/6 Flat Washer, Plain Finish, Off-White, 3/8" Hole Size, 0.39" ID, 0.75" OD, 0.06" Nominal Thickness (Pack of 100): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

Therefore, the reason nothing should have been shut down

Have we put all that behind us, or will voters in this election still be mad at Pres Trump for his Corona shut down?

Anyone who was for the shutdown are guilty and whats worse is anyone that would do all over again is even more guilty

I wouldn’t be mad at Trump. If he deferred to the so called experts, isn’t that what he should have done? He was the president, not a scientist. If we were to blame him for anything it would be not picking the right people around him. But choosing a staff for the White House is not the same as choosing a winner for a reality show.

  1. Trump didn’t shut down anything.
  2. Realistic alternatives were even worse(and Trump was bad for not laughing at the idea of changing anything for what was always obvious BS) on Covid.

That’s the get out of jail free card for state and local governments.

Here’s another glimpse into the future of other parts of the USA if Harris wins and continues to control immigration policy. Do you like hearing the sound of gunshots and emergency vehicles? Do you find assurances in vague press releases, detentions but not arrests and explanations that juvenile information cannot be released?

If so, you’ll probably love the sanctimonious platitudes your local woke leaders are sure to offer as they feign concern about the violence they’ve invited and cultivated wherever you happen to live.

And now we have Haitians eating people’s pets, ducks in parks and roadkill. How does someone look at Haiti and think, “let’s bring that here. They’ll fit right in.” Even the Dominicans are building a wall to keep them out.

All of the progressive lines of thought seem to converge on the idea that people are interchangeable widgets. It forms the basis for their declaration that disproportionate outcomes are proof positive of systemic oppression.

Eating pets, too

These words are from an extremely well-educated, well-traveled, multi-lingual woman with significant time spent in extremely poor parts of the world. Born and raised in Lewiston, now back in Lewiston. She is a very good writer and one of the most thoughtful voices in local politics.

No part of Maine was ever unwelcoming or hateful to anyone aside from a well-deserved cautious attitudes towards anyone from “away” that they somehow talked themselves out of.
