Depends on culture. At Gold’s in Venice, everyone leaves weights out. It actually works and adds to the ambiance. At other gyms, rack the weights.
I re-rack. It indicates that I am done and someone else can use the squat rack, bar or bench. My gym has a mix of women, big guys, older folks, weekend warriors and squat-rack-barbell-curlers. So you never know what kind of weight the next person can handle.
I’m done trying to guess if the squat-rack-barbell-curlers are done with their sets. If they can’t be bothered to strip the bar of two ten pound plates and they walk away to chat on their cell phones, I take the squat rack for it’s intended purpose.
I don’t rerack as much as I probably should. Dumbells and barbells I sometimes lay right where I use it but that’s when I’m around the dumbell area and barbell area, not like I take it to the machines where there would be a problem finding it… same thing imo…
as for weights on like leg press, I really never noticed how I was having bad etiquette, still don’t… actually I like when some people leave minimum 2 plates… less work for me having to stack it and really convenient in fact… when I spot it I let out an instant “yes!” and rush over to it :).
Now If I started pressing 5 plates, then ok I guess I’ll have to unstack for proper etiquette

As for unracking, I always do except for leg press. I am constantly tempted to leave my DL unracked though. I HATE when the barbell is lying on the ground and you have to strip all those plates off after destroying your lower bacl, not fun.

Yeah sometimes when I’m real fatigued it can be real tempting to leave plates. Yet, I feel like a valiant lifter after I re-rack, clean up messes left from chalk and that supersedes being lazy or making excuses not to.

Granted, if the gym staff doesn’t pay attention the lazier jerks in the place can get away with stacking a plate teepee but for the most part the gyms I frequent the “leaving shit lying around asshole factor” is not that high (must be my timing)

haha any guy who busts his ass in the gym and knows how much work goes in to building a great physique will love a woman with a build like yours. Who cares what some guy who probably does 1/4th squats with 95 lbs thinks?
I know when I go to the gym I drool over the girl with the tight ass and legs doing deadlifts and squats, but don’t even give the cardio bunnies a second look.
Most of these type comments come from insecure people. When a guy sees a woman in the gym who is in much better shape than he is, imagine how pathetic he must feel hah. He probably just took a jab at you to just make himself feel better.

My suggestion to you is go to the Sex and the Male Animal forum. Go to the T-Vixen 2.0 thread. Post a sexy pic and await the responses. Your mind will be put at ease after that, trust me.
I work out in the crappy little gym in my apartment building, and you can always tell when i take a few days off because when i come back the weight plates are a mess. They may be on the rack, but there’s no order to them. You’ll have to go though a plate of 45 and 35 to get to the 25s, and if you want 2 45s you may need to move a half dozen plates around to get them… it’s really anoying. As part of my warm up each day i reorganize the weight plates, i think most of the people who use the gym think i’m really anal. but it makes everything so much nicer when you can add more weight without searching for plates.
Not to mention it’s really inconsiderate to force muscularly challenged individuals to move around heavy plates to get to the light ones.
I’m kinda crazy. It upsets me when the 22.5’s are in the 10’s spot, or the 20’s spot. I will fight the urge to pick up and put weights away that are not mine. I will get up and put dumbbells in their proper place if I see them in the wrong spot, just because it irks me to accidentally pick up the wrong weight because some douche wasn’t paying attention when they re-racked. Grrrr! This is where my obsessive Virgo tendencies come out.
I always re-rack the weights. Basically the only times I don’t are when I have to make 6 trips to the opposite side of the room or even sometimes a completely different side of the room. I mean seriously, why would there ever not be a somewhere to put weights right next to a squat rack? It really hasn’t been because I’m a nice person. It’s just what I’ve always felt is what I’m supposed to do. It also let’s people know that I’m done. Hardly anybody uses the squat rack, but occaisionally I’ll see some weight on there and have to wonder if somebody is using it.

Haha, thank you. I think he was just mad that I walked in looking like a little barbie doll…and then was squatting more weight than he could. I think you’re right…it’s a compliment. Either way, I’m not going to stop lifting;)
