One explanation could be as someone already mentioned you wouldn’t post on the other forums if you didn’t feel you have the necessary knowledge to contribute (this stopped me for a quite a while) for fear of looking stupid or getting flamed or giving bad advice but i figured WTF nobody knows who i am!
But on the off topic you might feel free to express yourself more readily. I actually avoid contributing on alot of the off-topic threads now because i get fed up with being drawn in to long protracted ‘debates’ with religious zealots, nationalistic facists, racists, xenophobes e.t.c.
At least on the other forum topics science, logic, experience and a willingness to expand your knowledge can win the day.
Yeah man I lift, every week day. I try to increase weight every time, and although I am not a big guy I will be one day, this is a lifetime thing and you have to start somewhere.
I not only LIFT weights, I also LOWER them. Although I usually drop my deadlifts!
STATS
6’ 2"
260 lb.
590-600 dl
500-515 sq.
my bench sucks (mid 3’s)
I can also dl my Suzuki Samurai from the front (aluminum motor)
Stats
6’2
300 (just lost 10)
48" Waist (just dropped 2")
All other stats meaningless cuz of the chubs
I estimate my LBM ar approx. 200 lbs, so that makes me 33% Body fat. Ouch.
Squat,DL, bench. -DOn’t know, don’t care, though I did in HS. I’ve been getting back into exercising and really trying to find the fun in lifting again. I’m in a transition period in my life, trying to figure out exactly what I want out of lifting and what do I really want to accomplish and do athletically awa aestyhetically.
Doing BW exercises, some light Oly lifts for the 1st time which are awesome, cable pulling and trying to heal a bad shoulder and weak back.
Myt #1 priority though is not weight loss per se but rather overall self-improvement in all phases of life. Of course exercise helps everything in our lives!
Just got off a medication that helped me gain 70 lbs and caused some depression. #1 side effects are migraines and weight gain. The weight gain occurs because the body never quite feels full making it remendously easy to overeat. Didn’t get the migraines though-I wonder which is worse.
I second all the others that say they don’t always respond in the other forums cuz so many other lifters are more knowledgeable so I stick to answering only when I know the answer I give is true and effetive.
And yes, i spend too much time on the f’n internet! ANother habit to change!
But the off-topic section usually produces something interesting 2 or 3x a week- like my forthcoming post in 2 minutes about drinks and what they say about someone’s personality
Lift: Hell yeah. Been lifting since freshman year in high school for football, back in 1989. These days, more like 3-4X per week, either with my kettlebells at home or at the gym. Played rugby in college, but no real time for sports these days, other than the occasional flag football game in the fall. Have gone to Mike Mahler and Coach Davies seminars, which are cool.
Reasons for posting here most often: Ditto Cory. My area of expertise is more well suited to politics than trying to argue one side or the other in the keto diet debates. However, I read those to learn, and post when I have a question.
How do you post and have a job: My job involves sitting in front of the computer, so when I have time to goof off I can click over and post if I want to do so. Which also explains how I still have time for my fiancee – at least when work doesn’t eat it all.
Stats: Ditto Avoids. I’m not a huge guy though – 5’10", about 185 lbs. I don’t lift for size anymore, but when I did I was around 200. I’ve been trying to focus on form in my Oly lifts, and bar speed for squats.
as with sniper99 i don’t have too many questions so i stay in the off topic and photo forums mostly.
lately i’ve noticed the t&n forum getting shittier and shittier, so many people post so many topics and a lot of ignorant answers are posted on a daily basis. i’m not saying that i’m smarter than anyone, but when i don’t know shit about a topic i don’t pretend like i do
stats/numbers: 20y/o 6’4" 236 lbs lift 6 days a week for the past 3 years, play d1 hockey/student. full squat 395 bench 325 deadlift 525.
My name being mentioned by IL Cazzo, wow I feel like I?ve hit the big time. To answer your question, yes I lift. I shoot five days a week, I usually only get three to four. I post where ever I feel like. I like reading the training info on other parts of the forum, but I usually don?t feel like I have much to add. The debate is better with politics and religion. Guys don?t debate on training and nutrition issues that much unless someone posts a pic trying to squat on a ball or something. My numbers and stats ? enough to impress me. I like to rock climb and I am training for an adventure race right now. My wife doesn?t let me go out with girls and I don?t post that often.
There are many causes for this. One is because some people get more than one handle. Apparently they’re afraid that their training alias will not be taken seriously if they post about how Bush = Hitler in every post.
Some keep other aliases for the steroid board, for obvious and acceptable reasons.
Others really don’t have anything to contribute on training and nutrition topics, so they just stick around the OT board posting sexual or political filth.
I really think having us post pictures of ourselves would be an eye-opener.
Also, let’s go back to telling people to smarten up more often when they ask a question that is answewred in the current issue or if they have been around a long time and give completely off base and ridiculous answers. In short, let’s return accountability to these forums. For years that what this place was about. In the past year it has been overrun with people who care more about other’s sexuality than their squat and politics as opposed to iron.
I post here more often than anywhere else for the same reasons stated by many others(don’t have anything to add to training/ don’t do 'roids).
I lift. I’ve been training for about 2 years (1 seriously). I’m in the gym mon - fri at 5:00 am. I’m 6’1" 208 lbs. 13% BF. I squat 275, DL 245 (recently started) and bench 185. Not too terrible but, it’s getting better.
