I am curious about how paused squats could be/if they should be worked into the 5/3/1 program. Since we are just squatting once a week, we wouldnt be able to have a paused day and a regular day. Would it be useful to do some paused squats in the warmup sets or maybe in the FLS sets? I assume for the 5/3/1 lifts you never want to do them as you want to be moving as much weight as possible.
I did FSL as a 5x5 and paused the last two sets.
I recommend it with FSL work in the Beyond book. This is sold on Tnation, my website and Amazon.
Yes, I know. I bought and read it already. I thought you mentioned it in there but I was not sure where. I will look again.
I personally have done them for 2 sets of 3 reps @ about 80% of my training max after squats. If i find im starting to “dive bomb” my squats a bit too much, I like to throw them back in too see just how much help im getting out of the stretch reflex. SO from my training journal the last time I did them, I did 345x8 on squats, then 2x3@295 with 3 second pause in the whole, then did 5 sets of leg raise and 3 sets of hypers. Just another option on how to use these, not exactly like Jim does them, but maybe an option.
its all in the book

Cool, thanks!
I use them for my “dynamic” work per “Beyond” and like it immensely.
This is definitely covered in the Beyond book. Jim gives a good and concise reason to consider including them.
