I have only been to Salt Lake city once but it had the definite feel of “glad you could come when are you leaving” to it.
Does that happen to you a lot?
:-)
No, only time. I have yet to visit Japan though.
Don’t worry bro – we’ll make you feel welcome!
I want to thank Bob from accounting for believing in me. Sarah from payroll for saying never give up.
Maddox WTF I start a thread introducing you to group an you are MIA

Is your wife still lifting, Derek? Crossfit?
I seem to remember she was about my size. I’d only stalk you so I could stalk her a little.
Yes the wife is and many people from here are on both FB and G+
You stalk me, you get the wife, it’s a package deal.

Sen Jr. is heading to GA Tech in the fall to study Engineering…he toyed with majoring in Education to which we promptly explained he’d do 2 years at the local Community College and then attend U of MD to finish up his Teaching ‘degree’. No way I’d pay for my kid to go to Yale to ‘study’ literature.

I don’t think I’ve ever told Lama this but though I was not raised Mennonite I used to frequent the Red Top Mennonite Church in eastern Montana not far from the North Dakota border.
I was a single ranch hand living with and working for a Catholic family but was a part of the little Mennonite congregation. I never had to worry about Sunday dinner because the ladies of the church would always try to get to me first after the sermon to ask me to join their family for the meal.
I used to eat so good. Then nap. Then drive home.
Some of my fondest memories are the sounds of acapella singing resonating from within that tiny building sitting all alone on the lonely prairie.
They are salt of the earth people…very strict, but hard working as the day is long, no doubt.

Yep, Downtown SLC and Park City are really the only non-LDS controlled areas of the state (maybe Moab as well).

Whew, Chushin had me convinced it was my personality. Moab didn’t even feel like it was part of Utah after SLC. They even had palatable beer.

Hate to break it to ya, but all beer in Utah is 3.2% alcohol. :-/

Congrats to your son, Sen. That’s a great school. I applied to Georgia Tech for grad school in Industrial Psychology, but got rejected. Oh, well. I got a bad taste in my mouth for Atlanta when the woman working at the airport there asked me if I was going to be OK traveling alone. I was 20.
I completely agree with you about majors and college expenses. So many expensive degrees with no market value. Our son is thinking about engineering or architecture. We’ll see. Anywhere in the science, technology, engineering, math spectrum would make me feel better.
This will probably offend someone. We told him we’d help him with anything but law school. That has to be the most soul-sucking profession on the planet, and there are a million of them here in SoCal.

Was it 10 years ago? Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part.
I remember stopping at a restaurant/bar somewhere between SLC and Moab and ordering and IPA. Saw that it was 3.2% and I was wondering how you could call beer flavored water an IPA?

I thought you liked beer? Didn’t you ask Professor X if he wanted to grab a beer together? That wasn’t just a ploy was it?

I told him would you like to grab a drink. He brought up Budweiser. I don’t always drink beer, but when I do I prefer Belgium Wheat Beers. I am not a big fan of too much hopz. It is the bitterness I have issues with. I have been converted to stronger alcohols like vodka, whiskey by the whiskey thread, and tequila I work with a girl from Mexico. I also like wine, but to each his own.

Hey Steely,
I did try to email you but I got a return on the address. Dmaddox gave me your email. I need to check the address and try again. I don’t want you to think I was ignoring you or anything. Work went super crazy and I have been under tremendous and working a ton of hours. So sorry about the delay in responding. I will try to email you again, I am sure I messed up the address. If not, I will ask D to confirm it and try again.

Hey good stuff, guys! Great that y’all got to get together.
I’ve made some VERY close relationships on T-Nation over the past 10 years, including a number of phone calls, but the only one I’ve ever met in person (a few times now) has been Mr. Chushin, who, I am pleased to report, is just as much a gentleman irl as he is online. He and I have some other meets lined up here soon, though (Mr. Push, we still on, I hope, for sometime this year?).
Pat, why on earth did I always think you had red hair?
LOL! It’s weird to hear what kind of idea people get about your physical appearance based on non-physical interactions. Like the DJ never looks like what they sound like on the radio.
Red hair is a new one though. I have never been accused of that.
I a curious, what did make you think I had red hair? Shit, it’s half gray. I blame the children for that…

I think you posted a picture one time of a trip you made to Italy, and there was a half-visible shot of yourself in one of the pics, and I guess my mind just filled in the details. I was rather surprised then to think you were a ginger, lol.
This could be my mind filling in false details, too, though.

Hey Testy, did you see more than a few dead animals on the drive between SLC & Moab? When I made that dive I probably saw between 20 and 30. Mostly deer. It was pretty surreal.

No, I don’t think I did but I see lots of dead animals on the the side of the road every day here in Michigan so it wouldn’t have stood out.
