I’ll give a little background since a few people seem interested.
As well know, TV signals will all go digital in FEB 09’. I do not want to spend 100 bucks on a digital receiver for my SD TV. Not worth dropped the cash on a dying technology. So I figured it’s worth getting something much better. I want a lot of movies and I do game, as well as write a LOT of reports. Sitting in a lazyboy w/ a 40" or larger screen is VERY nice to have when you’re reading a lot of documents and protocols as well as game and watch movies.
rsg,
I came across those links and they didn’t provide me with any information reguarding font clarity and sharpness.
LCDs seem to be the better option, but unless you get a 120hz tv, its a waste and there’s jutter. Even though some TVs have 3:2 pulldown, there’s still jutter and thats not acceptable when spending that kind of money.
The new DLPs use LEDs as a light source and although the clarity is good, I want to know how it compares to an LCD in terms of reading documents. I know that a good DLP set up is fine for games, so thats not an issue.
Going to bestbuy or circuit city is pointless b/c the setting are too far from optimal and the brightness is always set too high. Also, asking those idiots to hook up a computer to one of the DLPs would require the patience of a saint, and I’m no saint.

Well, you could, but the refresh-rate is way too bad, and so is the image quality.
If you want a great LCD display, go for the Dell_ultrasharp_3008wfp, I think you’d be more than happy with it. That is, if you have the money.[/quote]
This is just not true.
120hz refresh rate is impressive and much better than 60 - 75hz of your typical computer LCD. DLPs have even better response time than LCD and anything 8ms or less will be great for gaming. The problem is that if the video card is sending the signal at 75hz, it can’t up convert it to 120hz, you’re stuck at 75. These tvs are not a downgrade in terms of response time and refresh rate.
I have a 61 inch Samsung 1080p DLP with the LED light source. I also have an HP computer hooked to it through HDMI. The computer has an HD/Blu-ray combo drive. I haven’t tried playing games because I mainly play movies on the Samsung. I have a 20 inch LCD monitor that I use for everything else. I think the Samsung would be fine for games. It even has a game mode that speeds up the response. On New Years Eve we had a Wii hooked to it and it worked well. I am not sure how well it does text.
